I'm sure some of the people on this site know this but I bought The Early Years: King of Kings today and I noticed I already had it.  Well I looked at the labels and they are totally different!!  The other cartridge was called King of Kings: The Early Years.  So I guess The Early Years: King of Kings needs to be added to the database and not erased from the system print out list.  I'll try to post pictures sometime today.  Anyone know about this?  I assume the box and manual was different , too.

Aren't the game versions different?  Not sure if this is related to the label variant, though, but I do know that most of the Wisdom Tree games have varying software versions (shown on the titlescreen).

LOL.  I forgot.  I started that other topic.  Both versions should be in the database though. The variation needs to be added.

If the game play is the same then it  needs to be one entry with label variation under the extra media section.

Well, we could add it with a variation page, since the box is also different.  Also, could somebody that has the blue label/box variant check whether the game version differs?  The game version is displayed on the title screen after about 5-7 seconds, bottom middle.  I checked my brown-label variant and it is Ver. 1.3.

Than why are Greatest Hits, etc. added to the database base?  The titles have basically the same label except Greatest Hits, etc added with the same exact gameplay.  Also, why are Zelda gray and gold cartridge both added?  Same exact game different color cart.

Greatest hits are added becuase some like Devil My Cry 3 and Fable have extra content Plus  Greatest Hits are a series of  games.

I would be fine with switching Zelda. The problem with variants is the database would get to messy.

Example, Combat for the Atari 2600 have 13-15 different variants  Shocked  Do we add all as a seperate entry?

Have I told anyone today I HATE variants?

GH games and the Zelda rereleases have a completely different outfit (box, manual, cartridge/cd).  I don't think Scott knew that this game has a different box, and when the only difference is the label, then it will always be added as a label variation in the extra media section.  Seeing as how the King of King variants have different boxes as well, I think that we could add them as separate gamepages, but I can't confirm that just yet (manuals are the same for both versions).

Good point everyone. I agree with everyone to a certain extent. As far as I know the 2 King of Kings are the same and I suppose I can double check when I get home.
I do think they should have two seperate entrys for this game. I consider this a major variation, as I collect for variations as well. Now Atari on the other hand, has several and I mean SEVERAL minor variations. Some examples may be ; bold text, no copyright, small text, large text, mis-spelled, no atari corp, copyright of different years and I can go on and on. I can see how minor variations can get ugly, but I don't think the NES has that much to worry about. A few variations I would think deserve a seperate slot are:

King of Kings
Both Zelda's *Which already are taken care of*
Metroid
The Untouchables

....I'm sure there are a few more, but these are major differences to me, as a "collector".

under 3 screw games like wrecking crew, we could add a variation link for the 5 screw version. rather than making a whole new slot.

Either way, I know this site is going in the right direction and we'll figure something out. Everyday this site gets better and better, so please keep the feedback coming. =)
