I work at Media Play and they're closing because they're a shitty store. They're liquidating everything they have and this morning, after weeks of deliberation, they finally decided they could sell the video game display units (which technically don't belong to them). The liquidation agent is ancient and he doesn't know a video game from a codpiece so he had no idea what to price them. He wanted $700 for all the stand-up current gen system displays and $50 for the game boy display. I told him any good video game store would sell a used GBA SP for $40 (which is a lie) and that the one he was selling had been running 24/7 for 2 years (another lie). Then I low-balled him and got the whole display, including the DKC 3 cart in the system, for $35. I figured "Sweet, $35 GBA SP with a free game!"
WRONG!!!!
It took me 3 hours, one broken drill bit, a hack saw, a vice grip, 2 hammers (used in unison) and 4 screw drivers to pry the Game Boy and its AC adaptor out of the display. It was freaking indestructible! The best part was when the drill bit just exploded in front of my face while I was trying to drill out the screws. My life flashed before my eyes. I had to put goggles on after that. My drill couldn't handle the raw power of Nintendo.
When I finally got the SP out it had a big sticker that said "Not for Resale. Property of Nintendo." and the DKC 3 cart says "NOT FOR RESALE" on the title sticker. Score! Special Edition!
Now if only Nintendo could come up with a marketing strategy as solid as their display units...

But those display units look sweet, you should've kept it like that. Or sold it for a profit and buy 2 nintendo sps.

I only destroyed the back of the housing, so I could have still put it out on display. The truth is I just don't have any use for it. I don't need extra clutter laying around my room. It's already a shithole. I only wanted the SP. If anyone wants the display though, speak up now. Garbage day isn't until thursday. I can still dig it out of the trash can.
P.S. Doesn't anyone know where to get a good deal on one of those GBA flash cart writers?

My cuz says you can get them on Lik-Sang and other similair sites.(Play-Asia is the only other similair site i can thikn of...)
And linker4u.com
But those aren't great deals just the average going price.
Also said try eBay but those usually get shut down because it's illegal to sell them there.

i'm totally shocked you threw it away. people would pay top dollar for the display and are extremely difficult to get. nintendo usually take a majority of them back.
congrats on getting a sp. i can't go anywhere without mine....especially on long road trips. activision anthology stays the cart slot. |D

Tynstar spoke first. I'll swing by the house and dig it out of the trash Wednesday coincidentally, on my way to pick up a couch someone is throwing out. Double dumpster dive! Sweet! One man's trash is a tasteless man's treasure. I'll find out what it costs to ship and I'll COD it to you if you still want it.

Sounds good. Let me know how much and I will give you an address to ship to. My zipcode is 85308.
Thanks

@Evil Leon, since you work at Media Play you might be able to help me with this.
I was thinking about buying a few of thier video game displays, unfortunatley they want $125 for all of them. What I was wondering is do they have any wiggle room on the price? If I were to go thier final day of buisness, do you think I would be able to talk them down on thier prices? Also, what are they doing with all of the shelving once they are closed for good? If they are just going to throw them away I may just hang around the dumpster next week and wait.
I understand that there will probably be a big difference between my store and your store, but I figure that it's worth a shot.
