I was wondering which variation of the AVE cartridge is more rare...the full square one, or the one with a cut corner?  If I'd have to guess I'd say the full square one as I hardly come across those, but I couldn't find any info anywhere and I'm really curious...anyone know?  Also, I've only come across square cart variants for the rarest AVE games...is there a reason for this?

I would say that your assumption about the full square carts being more hard to find is correct. I cant say that I have ever seen one in the wild.

in case any one has no idea what we are discussing here, i thought i would upload a few pics.

here is a cut cornered ave cart......also notice the rounded edges near the bottom of the cart.

here is a boxed cart

here is what i have while were on the subject:

rounded edge:

Blackjack
Double Strike
Dudes W/ Attitude
Impossible Mission II
Krazy Kreatures
Venice Beach Volleyball

Boxed Edge:

f-15 City War
Mermaids of Atlantis
Solitaire

i agree with you on the theory of the rarer games having boxed edges. which ones do you have? maybe we can make a list to see what exists. hope i was of help.

its a r6. i suppose it could disprove it considering black jack and solitaire are both R7's.  it could just be the later releases.

nice scans Smiley

Also, not sure if you noticed, but the squared cart also has a field with "American Video Entertainment; MADE IN USA" engraved on the back of the cartridge, whereas the cartridge with the cut corner does not Smiley

Here are my AVE games and the type of cartridge:

cut corner:

deathbots
double strike
dudes with attitude
impossible mission II
puzzle
tiles of fate
ultimate league soccer
venice beach volleyball
wally bear and the No! gang

full square:

blackjack
maxi-15
pyramid
solitaire

I think most games were likely made in both cartridge forms.  Here is a list of what I've come across so far:

blackjack - cut corner & square
deathbots - cut corner & square
double strike - cut corner
dudes with attitude - cut corner
f-15 city war - cut corner & square
impossible mission II - cut corner & square
krazy kreatures - cut corner & square
maxi-15 - square
mermaids of atlantis - square
puzzle - cut corner
pyramid - cut corner & square
rad racket deluxe tennis II - cut corner
solitaire - square
tiles of fate - cut corner
trolls on treasure island - cut corner
ultimate league soccer - cut corner
wally bear and the no gang - cut corner

A bit differnt subject but also AVE related, is it normal that mnuals look to be photocopied, but are nicely cut, as I wondered about the poor quality of the manuals of AVE games.

You mean the black and white manuals?  AVE also released color manuals for some of its games, I never really looked at them as poor quality manuals, and mine don't look photocopied (I have lots of photocopied manuals, they are much much worse)...so maybe your AVE manuals are photocopied?

i have bought several ex-rental games in the past that came with photocopied manuals. a few of the manuals were well done. so i agree with speedy and say that you may have a photocopied instruction booklet.

I wish I could add to that list, but of the few AVE carts I do have, Speedy has already found those variations.
