A GAO report found Defense inventory systems so lax that the U.S.
Army lost track of 56 airplanes, 32 tanks, and 36 Javelin missile command launch-units.
And before the Iraq war, when military leaders were scrambling to find enough chemical and biological warfare suits to protect U.S. troops, the department was caught selling these suits as surplus on the Internet "for pennies on the dollar," a GAO official said.
I actually saw some of those auctions. They were also selling off chemical and biological work equipment.
As for the "lost" planes tanks missles i am leaning more towards they are accounted for but cannont either be told were they are or who we sold them to.
A friend of mine father was on a military base in Jordan (i belive) when we were not alowed to have troops in there. So everything on that base with him (aswell as bases like it) may have these things but they cannot be accounted for because they are were they should not be.
