Man, have I ever mentioned how much I hate Macs?  These things are the worst.  If I have to buy one for school next year, I'm gonna be sooooo pissed.

Why do you need a mac? The only thing they're good for is filling with sand and using as a boat anchor.

Well, I am going into photography, and many graphics schools require their students to purchase a Macintosh or Macintosh laptop.  I don't know where I'm going next year yet though, so I'm not sure if I will need one or not.

That sucks. Just curious what kind of photography do you like better, film or digital?

Both have advantages over the other, so I can't really answer the question that simply.  At this point, it really depends on what film camera you compare to what digital camera, what kind of effect you're going for, cost, and a lot more.  Saying digital is always better than film is idiotic, but the same goes for saying the reverse.  Right now I shoot most of my stuff digitally, but that's because my AE-1 is broken and digital is chaper for me (right now).  However, if I had a camera that was any less than four megapixels, I wouldn't even bother taking a single photo with it.  The more I use this 4 MP camera I have, the more I realize I desperately need to upgrade.  The quality and control just suck in comparisson to my 35mm SLR....  and I've got a mid-upper range point and shoot digital cam.  Sooooo, the question really can't be answered with a simple word.  It all depends what you're talking about specifically.  In five years what do I see myself shooting?  95%-98% digital.  That's then, though.  Right now things are different.

I've only done film, I've got a 35 mm Canon (I think I'll have to check when I get home to be sure) from 1984.

If you're going to be using this computer for graphics applications you'll learn to love the Mac. necessity has forced me to use a PC more than a Mac these days. While the software i'm using (mainly Illustrator and Photoshop) is the same it still feels so clunky using it on a PC after using a Mac for years.

For graphics and photo editing the Mac can't be beat, and that's not subject to debate.
