Looks like Romance of the Three Kingdoms I and II are very long, so I imagine III is as well.

That's for a total win, though.  You should look at what it says on Gamefaqs.  I think it is like 66 hours for the first game.

Victory conditions for the RFG Challenge for are that you only have to beat the final scenarios (as opposed to all of them):

"Romance of the Three Kingdoms - Win the fifth scenario
Romance of the Three Kingdoms II - Win the sixth scenario"

Beat Tom & Jerry. I didn't realize this was a platformer. The controls are decent enough, but it's never quite clear what is a platform and what isn't, and some platforms allow you to jump through from underneath while others don't. The boss fights are pretty easy to figure out the choreography, so they're not really a problem. Some of the enemies are annoying, though. The bouncing balls are incredibly difficult to destroy before they hit you, so you're better off timing a run underneath them when they bounce high. The problem is that to do that, you have to go backward slightly and that triggers a ball from the other direction. You end up slowly inching your way through the level that way.

There was also a crab enemy in the sink drain level that didn't disappear when you shot at it. Instead, it stopped moving for a couple seconds. If you kept shooting it, you got points, and every 50000 points gets you another life. I farmed a bunch of lives just in case, and I believe that was why I was able to make it through the game in one play through.

Wow @shane! I couldn’t beat that game after multiple attempts. That bouncing ball level was a nightmare and caused me to give up on it

It definitely took taking it slow and taking two steps forward, one step backward. I learned after losing a few lives on it trying to shoot them instead.

@shane - lol, I totally remember farming lives in Tom & Jerry as well!

With a lot of the KOEI games the scenarios are just the same game/same ending just starting you with more or less territory or having to conquer more of less territory. Typically the last scenarios is a conquest of the entire map. For perspective RotTK took me around 40 hours, but RotTK II took me 13. I feel like RotTK was a lot of me learning the ins and outs of the game which made me able to cut the time down considerably for RotTK II. Also some of the games, like a lot of NES games, have exploits you'll discover as you play. In RotTK I I played slow and safely by abusing the Set Fire function. If you found a general that was too powerful to engage you could simply wait until the wind was blowing the right way and set a fire to have the wind carry it into his territory killing his army or vastly reducing their numbers. It was cheap, but effective.

Die Hard complete. Yippee Kiyay!!

It’s actually a pretty good game. Very faithful to the film. There’s a fixed number of baddies (albeit more than in the film). You have to take them all out before they open the safe. This gives you a timer and makes the game fairly short, 20 to 30 mins.

There’s two health meters. The normal one and one for John’s feet! All the events of the film can take place via “photos” that pop up.

Unfortunately I don’t think I got the best ending. I think there’s meant to be a helicopter on the roof but I couldn’t get to trigger. Still jumped off the roof with the fire hose though.

Definitely worth checking out. Especially if you’re a fan of the greatest action and greatest Xmas film of all time.

Nice! Die Hard is great, I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

I will be back in this weekend, I think.  I have been playing through some games on Switch (and taking lots of notes to get a few more articles started), so except for puttering around in Phantasy Star IV, I am free to get back to NES games.

Batman Returns done. Looks like I got the bad ending, which I'm assuming still counts.

I was really enjoying the game at first, but once the difficulty starts ramping up in the second half, the game's stiff controls and spotty hit detection start becoming a real problem. I got pretty frustrated with the last couple of boss fights. Overall, it's a good game whose technical issues hold it back from being great.

I hope to be able to knock out a few more games soon, but as the list of games keeps dwindling, I'm seeing fewer games I feel up for tackling. That being said, I'm going to go ahead and give up my claim on Faria. It seems like an interesting game, but I don't have it in me right now to tackle one of the bigger games.

AD&D Dragonstrike is done.  It starts off pretty easy, but starting with stage three it becomes very brutal, although there a few stages that let up.  I picked "Easy" and the bronze dragon after playing with the silver dragon a few times and it was the way to go for me, though at the end I really wish I had picked the silver dragon (I think it has more range).  Anyhoo very difficult game that took me many hours of playing.  Glad I started last night instead of this morning, as I wouldn't have been done before end of today.

Just a little side note, while there is a PC version of this game, it has very different gameplay (kind of a weird FPS).  Don't know which I prefer, but the map screen looks the same.  And it has like a million more missions:

I'll do Gauntlet II next

I don't remember if I have Dragon Lance or Dragon Strike for PC, but of all of the games I used to own on IBM PC, this is the only one I still have, and it's CIB with 5.25" floppies. No way to play it, though.

Got a degree in Athletic World. I was one point from a first degree, and since I was going to tackle other power pad games today there's no way I was going to play it again.
