I don't know if anybody here would be intrested in these, but a friend of mine has 50 or so beta tapes that have two movies a piece on them.  These are not official releases, but rather blank beta tapes with movies recorded on them.  At this point my friend just wants to get rid of them so it's basically name your price.

If anybody is interested let me know and I'll get a list of the movies up.

Don't bother typing a whole list, but can you give me an idea of the kind of stuff on these?  Are they mostly horror, comedy, family, drama, etc.?  Any leanings towards a certain type/genre/time period of movies?  Also, were they recorded from TV or from other tapes?  And lastly, is there anything of particular interest?

I belive they are mostly horror from the 50's to 70's.  I'm not sure where they were recorded from, but I guess the film quality is pretty good.  I'll give my friend a call today to find out the specifics today.

I just like to watch them for the soundtrack.  You just can't beat the music from those!!  Of course I think they all used the exact same music.

speaking of porn soundtracks... does anyone remember the Cruzados? they did some Miller Genuine Draft commercials in the late 80's or early 90's. They were also the bar band in "From Dusk Till Dawn", though as Tito & Tarantula.

anyway... before they were the Cruzados, they were the Plugz and did the score for the porn flick "New Wave Hookers". this flick is famous for having a scene with the then underage Tracy Lords.

I have a copy by the way.

I am still very much interested in these, so any more info you can get would be much appreciated.

I just got off the phone with him and he said that the mivies range from 50's classics to 80's comedies with everything in between.  He isn't sure where they awere taped from, but he is going to check when he gets home.  I'm going over there after work today to check the movies that are on them myself.

I'm going up north for the weekend but I'll either have my friend come here to say whats on them or I'll come on Sunday night and post them.  Either way by Monday there will be more info.

Alright, I have some more info on those tapes.  My initial guess of 50 tapes was way off.  There is more like 200 of these tapes.  They were all recorded off of movie channels (like HBO and Cinemax which means no commercials on them.  Too bad about that) and there is 1 or two movies on each tape.

Some of the highlights from these tapes (I went through one box and there were 7 more) include:

Gone with the wind
Citizen Kane
Son of Flubber
Some Richard Pryor stand up routine
It's a wonderful life
My Giant
Spartacus
etc. etc. etc

I think I am going to make a full list of all the movies and post them up.  It would probably make this a whole lot easier.  Besides, if nobody here wants them, then I can just post the list on soem other boards and see if anyone wants them.

I think it's fair to say that they will have some value.

I bet just as used blank tapes, 200 of them on eBay would sell for a quite a lot!

I think he tried throwing them up on Ebay and didn't get any bids.  Hell, I'm not seeing any money from this so I say they should be given away for free.  |D
