Getting a motorbike soon.

Aim to get one by October. Currently bidding on 2nd hand bike leathers and kit on eBay.
Spare me the jingoistic stuff about not buying a japanese bike, Harley's here cost many thousands of pounds, even second hand, and old British bikes are also very expensive -and not too reliable.
Prolly get a Honda, there is a nice Moto Guzzi I have seen, but it's so old, getting parts for it will be a pain in the arse.
Something like a CB500 I should think. Nothint too flash, as it will get stolen (there are some real shits in this town) and I don't have a garage.

I'm not too familiar with motorcycles, is the Honda you are talking about one of the crotch rockets, or are you looking for just a normal bike? And the ride is better on Japanese bikes, Harley engines are bolted to the frame which rattles you to death. Some people like that though.
Any reason you are getting one just in time for bad/cold weather?
(I bet it would be cheaper to buy a bike in about three months, but that is just speculation.)
edit: spelling

Yes, the reason I will be getting one just in time for the cold weather is that they tend to be a little cheaper than in mid-summer.
I won't be getting a "crotch rocket". I did use to have a rather fast Honda CBX750f.
This time around I aim on getting a solid commuter / road bike. Something big, but not too big, not a racer, as it's uncomfortable for the passenger.
I won't be bidding on this Kawasaki, but this is kinda the size and style of bike I will be going for (apart from the shaft drive bit)

You should buy 10 for a bargain, and then sell 7 and still turn a profit. Then put the remaining 3 somewhere on a heap.

Buying this little 125 cc 4 stroke, brand new from a dealer, and I can save for a bigger machine next year. Also, it's taking a LOT of persuading to get this far with Mrs.THX, don't wanna push it.

Or possibly this one, which has the same engine.
Depends which one mrs.thx wants really - as far as passenger comfort goes etc

Why not buy a bigger second hand bike now, instead of a new smaller one?

Becuase a new bike comes with full warranty, does not need to pass an M.O.T (governement road safety test) for three years, has six months road tax, a full warranty, and prolly won't break down 10 minutes after I bought it.
I can ride bikes, I can't fix them, and have bought a few 2nd hand bikes in the past, which were basically momney down the drain
Also, it has cheaper insurance.
Recently, I passed on a really good job with the Royal Mail in another town, as I had no transport.
I figure, I can save for a bigger bike, whilst I ride this.

Since you brought up mpg, thank you for the conversion by the way, what do you normally use over there to figure out fuel mileage? I reciently read that it was something like liters per 100 kilometers, just something I've been thinking about reciently...

It's like this.....
I was born in 1971, the year of decimilisation. At school, we were NEVER, EVER taught imperial, only metric.
All our speeds are in miles per hour.
I can judge distances only in miles, but only work them out in kilometers.
I can judge weights in either, now. Heights only in feet and inches.
I don't know how many feet in a mile, or how many kilometers in a mile.
Because all of our road signs are in miles, our speed limits in miles, and the law requires our speedos to be in m.p.h, I can only work it out easily in m.p.g
I can do the maths to convert price per litre (it's now against the law to display price per gallon at a pump) roughly.
Once I've been riding a particular machine for a while, I get to know how far I can ride on a tank. Once I know that, I then ease into the price per litre.
I think, fuck I'm on reserve, better fill up, that's 10litres I need, at £xyz per litre..
And I will have sat down and worked out, how many gallins my particualr fuel tank is...
