1: Oh, oh, oh, I'm sorry. You testified earlier that the boys went into the store, and you had just begun to make breakfast. You were just ready to eat, and you heard a gunshot. That's right, I'm sorry. So, obviously, it takes you five minutes to make breakfast.
2: That's right.
1: Right, so you knew that. Uh, do you remember what you had?
2: Eggs and grits.
1: Eggs and grits. I like grits, too. How do you cook your grits? Do you like them regular, creamy or al dente?
2: Just regular, I guess.
1: Regular. Instant grits?
2: No self-respectin' Southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.
1: So how could it take you five minutes to cook your grits, when it takes the entire grit-eating world twenty minutes?
2: I don't know. I'm a fast cook, I guess.
1: I'm sorry, I was all the way over here. I couldn't hear you. Did you say you were a fast cook? That's it? Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than on any place on the face of the earth?
2: I don't know.
1: Well, perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist on your stove. Were these magic grits? I mean, did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

"If his unpleasant wounding has in some way enlightened the rest of you as to the grim finish beneath the glossy veneer of criminal life and inspired you to change your ways, then his injuries carry with it an inherent nobility, and a supreme glory. We should all be so fortunate. You say poor Toby? I say poor us."
"He spoke."
"Yeah..."
"Hey man, I thought you were from Long Beach."

Here you go. A classic.
Juror #3: What's the *matter* with you guys? You all *know* he's guilty! He's *got* to burn! You're letting him slip through our fingers!
Juror #8: [brow furrowing] "Slip through our fingers"? Are you his executioner?
Juror #3: I'm one of 'em!
Juror #8: ...Perhaps you'd like to pull the switch?
Juror #3: For this kid? You bet I would!
Juror #8: [baiting him] I feel sorry for you. What it must feel like to want to pull the switch! Ever since you walked into this room, you've been acting like a self-appointed public avenger. You want to see this boy die because you *personally* want it, not because of the facts! You're a sadist!

"Let me go! I'm not fit to be a senator! I'm not fit to live! Expel me, not him! Willet Dam is a fraud! It's a crime against the people who sent me here - and I committed it! Every word that boy said is the truth! Every word about Taylor and me and graft and the rotten political corruption of my state! Every word of it is true! I'm not fit for office! I'm not fit for any place of honor or trust! Expel me, not that boy!"
"You see, boys forget what their country means by just reading The Land of the Free in history books. Then they get to be men they forget even more. Liberty's too precious a thing to be buried in books, Miss Saunders. Men should hold it up in front of them every single day of their lives and say: I'm free to think and to speak. My ancestors couldn't, I can, and my children will. Boys ought to grow up remembering that."
