Hello.  This is my first post here (although I made an account here a while ago and I actively update my collection), so my apologies if this is the wrong forum section to post in.  Anyways...

I'm going to be getting a PC Engine Duo-R for Christmas.  I really wouldn't want to use the included power supply because it's Japanese and not original (although the seller showed the console in action with it).  I don't want to fry my system by using that in a US socket.  I've heard on other forums that you can safely use a Genesis model 2 power adapter, but I'd just like to have a bit more closure on this.  Thanks.

That is correct a Duo-R will use the Genesis Model 2 adapter.

You can find confirmation of that here:

Enjoy your Duo-R there's a lot of great games!

Is the Duo-R just the Japanese version of the American Turbo Duo?  Why the R?

The PC Engine Duo had three versions.  The R is the second.

@Shaggy:

The PC Engine Duo is the same as the Turbo Duo.

To elaborate on what Ikariniku has said:

1st version: PC Engine Duo; First version, this one has a headphone jack, also has a more "sturdy" feel.

2nd version: PC Engine Duo R; White/Light Gray in color, no headphone jack, this one came with a matching color 2 buttton pad.
Feels more flimsy; seems to be made of lower quality plastic, internally has a cheap switch for the cd lid door, also power supply cord is much thinner, among other things.

3rd version: PC Engine Duo RX; Same as Duo R, body is the same, exept for the Duo RX logo, also this version came with a 6 button pad, that looks a lot like the PC-FX pad.

The main thing about the Duo-R that's great is that it's MUCH more reliable than the standard DUOs, which are known for leaking caps.

Also... I found some video proof of the Genesis 2 power supply working, too.
