Years ago, I found a broken Master System cartridge laying in the road as I was walking home from school.
The label was worn off and the circuit board was (and still is) in several pieces (some pieces missing, including the contacts), so there's no way to properly insert it into a console. Cry
I picked up as many pieces of it as I could find and took them home*.

I recently came across the cartridge again and started to wonder what game it was.
Spoiler: Warning! The following images may be disturbing to some. (hover to show)

I found this list of ROM IDs, but the ROM I have (MPR-12546) isn't in the list.
The chip above it is one of these: http://www.smspower.org/D...hips#The3155365PagingChip

Actually, y'know what? Here's a closer and better picture of the chips:

Does anyone here know what game this was? Huh I know it wouldn't magically fix the cartridge, but it would be nice to know.

*We've all done that here, right? Roll Eyes

Well that little bit of remaining label means it was a short titled game.
That narrows it down some.

Well, if it helps, the chip above it was a mapper chip, and can be found in the following known cartridges:
Bubble Bobble
Casino Games
Chase HQ
Galaxy Force
Operation Wolf
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap

Chase HQ, Operation Wolf, and Wonder Boy III aren't documented on that site. Judging by the lack of text on the label, I'll go with the shortest name on that list, Chase HQ.

EDIT: Or...not. The space there doesn't line up with the image from SegaRetro:

Might be Wonder Boy III? Has the same coloring on the label:

That's true.

Well, if it helps, the chip above it was a mapper chip, and can be found in the following known cartridges:
There's also a possibility that it's not documented on there at all. Undecided

Might be Wonder Boy III? Has the same coloring on the label:

Ehh... I don't think so, judging by the way the letters line up with what's left of the label. It is folded over a bit on the left... Closest so far though. Smiley

Well, here are the other images for comparison:

...Maybe Galaxy Force? The other labels don't match the printed color.

EDIT: Found a page with more info. Looks like the chip was manufactured between Altered Beast and Thunder Force II, which would put it as releasing in 1990.

Galaxy Force does seem to match very well! Apparently it's already identified as MPR-12566A in that list though. Variation?

There can definitely be variations. Take a look in this list, just to see:

Those are arcade ROM numbers.

I thought I was onto something here, but these have dead links in them. Sad

You can try sending Protoman on there a PM. Looks like he was the one that most recently updated that ROMs page.

I'd rather not create an account on another forum just for this.
It may have to remain a mystery (but with a possible match).

You could always dump some Galaxy Force ROMs online and see... Grin

I highly doubt that would give me the MPR numbers. It'd just be called something like "Galaxy Force (E)[!].bin".
Otherwise, that would be a good idea. Tongue

...who said that's a proper ROM dump? It's just a ROM image - you'd still have to dump the image.

Wait... Are you suggesting I dump the ROM contents myself? If so, I don't have the equipment or knowlege to do so. Sad
I found another game that uses the same mapper: "Spellcaster"
