Discuss and share Cartigraphy here.  Whether it's the items I post or ones you've found in your collection.  Before you peel off that rental sticker or Goo Gone that name in magic marker, won't you consider posting it here?

Great idea for a thread. I'll post some remaining markings later.

Cool!  I do find things like this interesting, and it should make for an interesting little gallery.

This label is on the back of my copy of Mouse Trap for the Atari 2600.

Ha!  That's a fun sticker.  Really a snapshot of a moment in Coleco's video game history.  Also, now that I know Mousetrap came out for the 2600, I'll have to keep my eyes open for it.

With my technical issues solved, a new Cartigraphy.  This is one of my favorite discoveries, presented in honor of this month's Retro Playthrough.

I wish I had a picture of it, but I once got to play with a Casio Loopy.  Probably my favorite part of the experience was that some girl's name was written on the cartridges.  It's funny to think that there's a Japanese woman out there somewhere around my age that once played with these as a child.

When I first saw the word "cartigraphy," I imagined someone using their fine-handwriting skills to draw maps, kinda like this:

Afghanistan in Arabic

ANYway, I have quite a few examples I'll try to dig up and post for ya.

Until then...

@Zag  Yeah, I thought something like that might exist, but my Google Search showed that nothing notable had claimed the name "Cartigraphy" yet.

Feel free to post any interesting cart graffiti you find.

A few former-rental Genesis/Mega Drive carts I recently picked up, with their rental decals still applied:

Upper left: Traysia with Wherehouse bar code. I'd almost forgotten about the Wherehouse, the combo video-rental / new-and-used media chain. They disappeared a little before Tower did.

Upper right: Phantasy Star IV with Game Dude sticker. I'm not sure if this is/was an independent store, or some sort of SoCal-based mini chain. In any case, I like finding former rentals with small-time / independent store stickers on 'em. It's a little window into the history and geographic location of the product.  This was likely sitting  on a store shelf 400 miles away while I was graduating high school.

Bottom: Japanese Phantasy Star III. I actually did a little research on this one,  mainly 'cuz I was curious to know to where Baldwin park was located. Also, I was not familiar with the 818 area code. Turns out it's in the greater Los Angeles area, situated in the San Gabriel Valley region. I also discovered that the 818 area code primarily covers the San Fernando Valley, AKA "Porn Valley." Which leads me to wonder if this might have been used as a prop in a shoot somewhere. I shudder to even think about it...

Is that a giant nose hair, or a long string of black snot coming outta Macaulay (sp?) Culkin's nose? If it's the latter, I'm guessing it's from all the drug abuse...
