News - First Real Xbox 360 Pictures

Posted by Richard Brownell at 12:05:28 PM EST on 4.25.2005.

Somebody has truly dropped the ball this time. With Microsoft hoping to slowly build hype through ourcolony in preparation for an awe-inspiring event on MTV before E3, a leak could not come at a worse time. Several weeks remain before E3 and now the public knows what the Xbox 360 will look like, as well as a few more details confirmed. Microsoft is scrambling to determine the source of the leak, but who really cares? On with the images!

The first is a concept image showing the entire front of the system. The second is a shot of the real system. And the third is a shot of the now confirmed 64 MB memory card.

These images clear up what many have argued over since the first whispering of the Xbox 360 began. The second image shows clearly that an attachable hard drive will indeed be an option, which means a value pack without hard drive and full pack with hard drive are likely to hit retail. The images also reveal Xbox controllers will all be wireless and we can only hope some kind of docking apparatus will ship with the system to charge them.

In addition, the memory card picture obviously confirms there will be a 64 MB memory card and that two slots are available directly on the system, not the controllers. Less bulk on bulky Xbox controllers is always good. To make gamers lives even easier, it appears DVD functionality is built into the system, due to the small LED present next to the controller ports.

There isn't much more to tell about the Xbox 360. This story combined with previous Xbox 360 stories on GAF leaves very little to the imagination.

We can always speculate though. And since most conspiracy theories about the Xbox 360 are now gone, we'll throw a new one in the pot. Could the Xbox 360 be the testing ground for Microsoft's new security chip, named NGSCB? The NGSCB security chip is the [current] end result of Microsoft's notorious Palladium scheme and reportedly may be required to run Longhorn. End conspiracy theory.

We'll have the latest on Xbox 360 from the pre-E3 conference, unless of course more information and pictures are leaked to the public.

Most definately can tell that that console has PC influence.
Has a 40 gig which is a plus but that just means they are going more for the multimedia aspect.
Xbox only has a20 right?(not sure) i have never heard of anyone filling their xbox with anything but music.

From those few frames though it does look kinda cool. Going to wait on a set of real pictures though. That way i can get a full view of everything at once.

I wonder what the controllers are going to look like too.

- Wireless controllers... ugh, not even an option for wired

- 2 memory card slots and no one uses memory cards, it would make sense if they were a common format like what sony is doing using normal memory sticks as memory cards (just put your old saves on a computer when you run out of space, never delete a save file again, memories of 15 blocks plauge my mind)

-BOX...360.... i sense a paradox

-It looks VEY Mac influenced to me lol (the white shinyness), ironic because it is Microsoft

hmmm.... Apple Xbox kind of rolls off the tongue

Gah!  Hold on a second here.  Who remembers the Indrema?

http://www.newbreedsoftwa...com/bill/indrema/gallery/

I was at a conference in town back in 2001.  At a Microsoft session I asked the rep what Microsoft thought of the Indrema.  He paused (looked like he cought himself from saying something) then politically stated "I don't know very much about that".  Shortly after, Indrema stated they were unable to obtain necessary funding to continue and the project was aborted.

Well, look at what we have here.  This is incredible, and does explain a lot.

It looks like a really thick remote control. I think it looks pretty neat, but very expensive. Really, what's up with wireless controllers? If I want one of those I'll buy them loose. Just give me a cheap wire controller Microsoft.

Anybody going to watch that MTV Xbox 360 special on 5/12/05?

I'm of the opinion that if they have wireless controllers standard, that this is going to be one VERY expensive system. Probably at least $299 for a box (without hard drive) and $399 (with hard drive).

I'm guessing that it'll be packed with one wireless controller, but additionals will probably be $34.99-$39.99 each (if not more).

MS may indeed be releasing the most advanced system we've seen in years, but if they overprice every game and peripheral, they're running the risk of alienating gamers that are not willing to spend the $$$ to keep up with the system. IMO, not having an option for wired controllers is definitely a step in that direction, along with the optional hard drive.

One of the things I love about Xbox is that you don't have many of those "by the way, you also have to buy..." moments. The built in 4-player capability and hard drive really made the difference to me when deciding between xbox and PS2. Plus, the controllers (S) are constucted better, and the xbox live was very easy to set up and get into. If Xbox360 starts to "specialize" too much (like PS2 did), I'm not going to be buying it for a LONNNNNG time, if at all.

I don't trust 'leaked' pictures on the 'net. Period.

I watched the special on MTV last night.

I would've liked more coverage on the games and the system and less musical performances.

Very funny, bats. Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember when MTV was ALL music video, ALL the time. They even had VeeJays. And VH1 didn't even exist!
