i agree with what Fleach said, and singlebanana i'd recommend watching it again from a different video because the dialogue you get each time you play will be different. not 100% different, there's still a good chunk of overlap, but it's definitely somewhat randomized.

No, I had a good idea of the story while watching the playthrough, since it was complete. I understand the basic story and what went on. My process for understanding this game has to do with the multiple names and events you come across and trying to put them together for a more philosophical understanding of the game. For instance, Paul, Esther, and Damascus are all biblical references with some heavy significance that you can't ignore.

I completely agree with Disposed and mentioned something similar in my earlier "is this a game" comment. I don't feel like you do anything in this "game" and there is little to no interaction with items or the environment. You basically just walk around to reveal more story. I'd probably contend that this is not a game, but an interactive narrative. Gone Home, though similar in some respects, forces you to manipulate certain areas to move forward in the narrative (unlock a combination lock, find a key, etc.).

Is the narrator mad, or is it you?

Both. And neither. They left parallel vapour trails in the sky.

I know I missed the 'deadline', but I'm still gonna try and start up The Stanley Parable over the weekend and give my thoughts on it.

You can "beat" The Stanley Parable in around 15 minutes. But...

Spoiler (hover to show)

love yr notes Fleach.

I honestly couldn't seem to get into Dear Esther. To my own surprise. It seems right up my alley. But... I don't know. It might be a better cold weather game for me or something. I think I was playing it at the wrong time - since I was on vacation that week and in party mode. I wasn't really feeling introspective or anything. :\

Your mindset and surroundings help with the experience of Dear Esther. Don't expect much gamey-ness to it and instead image watching a play or listening to a monologue.

As for my notes. There are lots of loose thread in the dialogue and some don't connect to anything. We'll get into that in the podcast. The main thing is to not over analyze because you'll just give yourself a headache.

When and if you play the game, take your time and soak it all in. I hope you enjoy it.

http://dearesther.wikia.c...m/wiki/Dear_Esther_Script

if anyone is interested, this site has the entire script of Dear Esther. it really shows just how much more there is that you can only get by replaying the game or looking it up online.
