So we finally picked a game to be featured that all of you have played...  or at least I'm assuming so, because this is after all one of the greatest and most popular platformers ever made.  It may not have been as revolutionary as Super Mario Bros. 3, but Super Mario World still holds a very important place in history as a launch title for the SNES and one of the best-selling games of all time.  Heck, it's so good that it may even be possible to get your girlfriend to play it.

This is one of my favorite games of all time, and one of the few I've actually beaten.  When I first played it, I was really bad at it, so I had my uncle beat the tough levels for me, but by the time it was rereleased on GBA, I was able to beat it myself.

The soundtrack especially brings back memories of my youth.  It's hard to believe this game is over ten years old...  It's still just as good today as it was back then.

Yay for Super Mario World!

You just made me feel old.  Was that really necessary?  I remember when this game was brand new, and to think it is almost fourteen years old now is pretty scary.  This is what happens when you turn twenty.  You suddenly become old and wonder what happened.

And yeah, this game brings back a lot of memories of my youth too.  I never owned this when I was younger, but many of my friends and my cousins had it, and I loved going over to their houses to play this game.  Many people still debate whether Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World is better, but I think I prefer Super Mario World, partially because I didn't actually own it for so long, and I always had a strong desire to play what I didn't have.

This is the second best game ever according to some online tracker, and I pretty much agree with that. Super Metroid still owns all, but SMW comes in at a close second. Who didn't love this amazing debut game for the SNES.

And Mike, you're not old, you're still nineteen, remember?

I don't know what you guys are bitching about, I was 30 when this game came out! Shocked  How do you think that makes me feel.  Never the less it's a great game and one that I have played for a change.

I hadn't played it untill I gave it a try on an emulator last night. You shouldn't judge a game after only having played it on an emulator for 10 minutes of course, but I wasn't impressed. Then again, I never had much interest in Mario games.

I've only recently played this game. I had a Genesis back then. I've only had my SNES for about 3 years. I'll try to log some more time with it to give a more informed opinion.

@bum-man: heh heh, It cracks me up too when these youngsters bitch about being old. 4 day shy of 37 myself!

Man it was that long ago and i still remember getting it.
I was all of 6 years old when i first played it.

Great game, great soundtrack, great launch title.

I should give this a play again.
Too bad i can't just play the bosses and certain levels.

It was fun and annoying to beat thru all the alternate modes for some levels.

When this game was first released, I was amazed at how deep it was.  All of the back exits on levels, the special worlds, and of course the addition of Yoshi.  I love this game.

This is one of the few games outside of Tetris that everyone likes and plays whenever it's around.  I remember when this game first came out, they had a SNES set up at a Target near me.  I went there with my mom and spent the entire hour she was shopping around the store glued to this game.  While I was playing people kept coming up behind me to watch me play, and 2 or 3 people actually bought a SNES just from seeing that game.

I got it for my birthday that year and spent most of my summer trying to find every secret in the game.

What were all the names of the bonus star levels after beating Bowser?

Cool(?), Awesome, Tubular, Bodacious(?). There were at least 4 more.  if the two with (?) were realy the correct names.
I think there may have even been 10 or 12 total not just 8.

TraderJake probably knows the answer to that, but I never actually got that far in the game.  I guess I probably should take the time to complete this game someday and find all 96 exits.  Has anyone here done that?

I got all of them except for the "normal" exit on the ghost house in the Forest of Illusion.  And I know the name of one of the Special levels was "Funky".  That level is also the toughest one in the game...

I can't remember the names of all of the special levels, but I have found all 96 exits.  It took forever.
