PS2 HDD
«

Hey guys, I've noticed one of my local shops has a lot of PS2 HDD network adapters. Now aside from not playing FFXI on it (those servers can't be live anymore can they?) is there any reason to get one?

How can you tell if a title supports the HDD? Icon on the box?

FFXI is still online and playable. You can also transfer saves to and from memory cards to the HDD.

I was not expecting the servers to still be up, I might have to check that out. It seems pretty affordable, sounds like something that would be worth checking out this weekend!

If you're interested, you can also transfer your characters to other consoles...

I just picked up the Final Fantasy XI HDD bundle. I looked online and the servers are actually still active. I will have to hook this up and take a look. Hopefully the 30 day free trial part still works

The official Sony HDD is a Maxtor 40GB that as was previously mentioned allows you to play Final Fantasy 11, transfer saves, and copy some titles to the HDD. You should be able to use any IDE HDD up to 120GB with the network adapter, but will only be able to copy titles to the HDD. No save transfer with a non standard drive. (I didn't try using the Sony HD utility on a non standard drive)

Wanted to follow up, and offer my thanks to all who helped. This was by far one of the most impressive additions I've made to a PlayStation2. I'm having a hard time wondering why this wasn't a much bigger deal when it originally came out.
