As I alluded to before, expect a certain, affordable and classic, beat 'em up series to be announced at that time.
Well now I'm gunna start guessing!
We already did Streets of Rage.
Final Fight is out because those are expensive.
Golden Axe would be great, but I think the 3rd game is expensive and rare.
Ninja Gaiden isn't a beat-em up.
I know it! Bad Dudes.

Any of those games were be great! Bad dudes and Ninja Gaiden are my votes, though. Too bad I have crap in 4 places and don't know what is where.
Wait to do Ninja Gaiden until I have all my stuff in 1 location so I can play. lol

I hate to keep suggesting games because then the whole thing gets diluted, but I think I got a good one. It's portable, so it would be easier for the busier people to play.
Pokemon Red or Blue.
I've actually never played any Pokemon game besides for Blue for a few minutes as a kid so I'm very interested to see the foundation of one of the biggest crazes in video game (and recent pop culture) history.

I once posted about playing a Pokemon game using the
Nuzlocke Challenge rules
. People didn't seem too interested. Either way, I'm willing to play a Pokemon game casually or with an imposed rule set.

I'd definitely be up for a Pokemon game, but I can't see myself adhering to any self-imposed rule set. Reading through the Nuzlocke rules, it sounds like it would only serve to make the game less fun in my opinion.
Perhaps make the Nuzlocke Challenge optional?

Are there any Pokemon games that would fit our usual time/budget guidelines for the community? I've never played a Pokemon game and have been wanting to for a while, but I have the impression that they're all costly and lengthy to play. Is that accurate?

You can complete the main storyline of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow in 8 hours of casual play, as long as you're not focusing on doing everything. I think I remember spending 50-60 hours in my first playthrough as a kid to catch and evolve everything, battle every trainer, collect every item and max out the money.

Pokemon can't be as long as Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG, which were both played already. Plus, it's portable. Take it to your kids dance recital. Play it while "working." Duct tape a gameboy under the lid of your toilet bowl tank.
As for price, looks like $20-$30 loose on eBay.

most pokemon games loose are quite affordable, definitely more so than some games we played in the past (SMRPG and Suikoden II come to mind). like jerry said, usually around $20 - $30 for most of them.
as for length, I can't say for the first gen but some of them can be quite long, it all depends on how you play it. I really can't see anyone who's never played the game before going through it in 8 hours though, that sounds very optimistic. bet on 15 - 20 to be safe.

I did say the main storyline - no guarantees if you branch off.

It's pretty quick if you just blast through. I've never actually timed myself on any of my runs through Blue/Gold, but 10-15 hours is a fair estimate as long as you aren't trying to catch 'em all.
