I haven't been here very long, so I'm not sure of what's already been played or what is very acceptable to being played, but may I suggest any Pokemon games?  Smiley

I've proposed a pokemon Nuzlocke challenge a few months ago.  Reception was lukewarm.

Dark Souls or Demon Souls

Let's be real about this Chris, you've played these games before, would you play them again for a community playthrough or are you just making a drive-by suggestion?

I haven't played Demon's Souls.

I would be all for The Wolf Among Us, now that it has a physical release.

Fair enough, and I beg your pardon for assuming that you had. So would you participate if we did it?

Yes, I'd probably do some new game + on Dark Souls as well. Lead time is the big thing for me. For long games I need to block the time out a while in advance.

@EngineerMike: The Wolf Among Us was great. I hope they do a season 2.

I've played that game already but I'm not opposed to revisiting it after enough time has passed. The series only ended in the summer so things are still fairly fresh in my mind. Maybe if we played through the whole series in sprint returning players will have spent enough time away from the game.

What about a competition month with a racing game? F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, R.C. Pro-Am, etc.

I think the Racing genre lends itself to being one of the least replayable, but perhaps a friendly competition in one could rekindle an interest.

I think this is a fantastic idea! We'd have to figure out some way to make it a competition. Possibly just selecting certain tracks from each game and posting finish times. My only concern with some of the Super Mario Kart games are the short cuts. I'd suggest we pick games that do not feature "cheats" (not really cheats, no better word I can think of ATM) like these.

Good luck with that... Almost all racing games have some sort of factor that will contribute to different times, e.g. different routes (shortcuts), different characters/cars, etc.
You would likely need to standardize the timing in some way, e.g. Toad on Toad's Highway, 150cc, No Shortcuts

Other than different cars, I think games like F-Zero (SNES) are pretty standard. Some may complain, but we could just leave Mario Kart out of the mix. If we included it, I think that standardizing the timing like Shadow suggested would be fine.

I think F-Zero is pretty straight forward without any real short cuts. Most people here probably own it already, if not, it's only a few dollars. The 4 different cars could be fun. Also, you can select whichever track you want to play.

I don't know too many other games besides the ones I mentioned above. I think Rad Racer would be too primitive, Road Rash is too much of an RPG and beat'em up.

Uniracers?? I remember I really liked that game as a kid, but I can't remember if it would be good in a competition.

I think that maybe we should revisit a few of these games in the next month or so and see what we can do about figuring out which ones would work well.

You could include Ridge Racer with a certain car choice. Daytona USA with a particular setup would also work. Cruis'n USA and World could also be considered.

i don't see the problem with short cuts, they're available to everyone so does it really matter? if it were 2 players sitting on the couch and one used a shortcut but the other didn't, their laps would be different lengths but it wouldn't be seen as "cheating" by anyone i know.

why not just use time trials? almost all racing games have those, and it's probably the easiest way to make a competition.

It's an issue because everyone is not privy to them and it's a competition. People shouldn't have to go to YouTube to try and figure out how to beat someone who uses short cuts. Plus, it's just lame.
