Hey now,
Between prepping for the NSSS and burglaries, it's been a pretty eventful day. None the less, here's the modest smattering of scores I've picked up over the last few days:

- Pearl Pink GBA SP with
Shrek
game, $10.39
- Black GBA with platinum Intec snap cover and King Kong game, $5.99: I dunno who "Izerd da Lizard" is, but I'll bet he's related to Nicole Peterson.
-
Game Art for Teens
book with CD-ROM, $1.99
And of course the obligatory
Skylanders
stuff, including the TRU exclusive Deja Vu Micro-Comic fun pack with water trap.
Beddy-bye time...

I thought it was a 1001 to begin with...
The text on the buttons threw me off because, over here, only the 1002 has text on all the buttons. All the other models have symbols (apart from on the reset button).
I'd probably keep the 7501 and give a 5501 to your niece. For some reason, I believe the 750X (replace X with region) and above are more reliable.
I believe I have 2 1002s, 3 5552s, 2 7502s, 1 9002 and 1 102. I'm trying to get each model that was released here.
I believe that all versions of the PS1 here in North America had text on the console buttons. I wasn't aware that was different elsewhere. You learn something new everyday...
And I have another 7501, so I'm not worried about that.

Is there advantage to having certain models?
According to the research I've done, the higher the model number, the more reliable the PS tends to be due to hardware upgrades. That's all I've been able to glean, besides what Zag already posted.

Got a nice lot of Genesis games from Retro-Rage yesterday, all for a very solid price.
All were CIB except Animaniacs, and all were in great condition.
Shining Force II
Doom Troopers (including collectible card)
Animaniacs (missing manual
Ren and Stimpy's Invention
King of the Monsters 2
Also included, Exo Squad box and manual.

For those interested, here's a pic of some of my haul from Sunday.
The case holding the carts appears to be specially made to store Atari 2600 carts, but I don't believe it is official Atari. I have no idea what company made it. It has a lid that is not pictured.
