I'm told collecting Skylanders stuff is an expensive hobby. I hope you have excellent self control. In case you were wonder the figures work on the portals while still in their boxes so they can be functional and still display nicely.

All this Skylanders stuff is from Amazon. I got Swap-Force on a whim because it was half price for black Friday. I don't have a PS4 yet but now I know I have at least one solid game to look forward to once I get one.

Now, THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! I'm glad to see I've been such a positive influence. That's one point for me in the "Skylanders arms race," as it were. What have YOU got in response, Shadz?! HUH?!

Yeah, that's what I thought... PUNK!

BTW I got a few things to send your way one of these days, Ghosty.

I'm told collecting Skylanders stuff is an expensive hobby. I hope you have excellent self control. In case you were wonder the figures work on the portals while still in their boxes so they can be functional and still display nicely.

F*CK that "keeping them in their packages" bullsh*t!

Either free them up to play with them, or don't even bother collecting them at all!

Oh, all right: I'll make an exception for most of the exclusives and variants. Yeah, go ahead and keep those ones packaged. But the mainline and lightcore stuff? Ya gotta let 'em breathe, buddy. Though if you do take 'em out of the package, you might want to air 'em out in a remote place for a few days, until they lose that new-rubberized-plastic whiff.

Speaking of Skylanders: I took advantage of Toys R Us' buy-one-get-one-free deal on all Spyro's Adventure and Giants figures to fill the gaps in my Giants set:

- Series 2 Prism Break/Lightning Rod/Drill Sergeant and Series 2 Eruptor/Stealth Elf/Terrafin triple packs
- Legendary Bouncer and Series 2 Flameslinger single packs

I also found five loose NES carts for $2.99 each:

- Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
- Mike Tyson's Punch-Out

- Regular Punch-Out
- P.O.W.
- Mappy Land

Thanks to that pick-up, my collection now has 100 NES games.

Other grabs:

- CIB Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Ghostbusters for PS3, $5.99 each
- CIB Marvel Ultimate Alliance for 360, $3.99
- CIB Desert Storm II for PS2, $1.99
- Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY and Sonic Classic Collection from a Toys R Us BOGO special
- Sealed Mass Effect, $7.99: I picked this up mainly for the "Do Not Sell" warning along the top of the case:

All righty, that's it for now.

Nighters.

As Steven Segal once famously said, "I will break your arm"

No it has nothing to do with what I grabbed this week, but I'm watching "Hard to Kill" and he breaks about 47 arms in this movie and its hard to shake the image.

Anyhoo picked up a bunch of common N64 games for $3 each.  No Conker, no Sculptors Cut, but an Ocarina with a badly faded label! (Which to my surprise sold on eBay in less than 20 minutes)

'Norch...just because I've been sick DOESN'T MEAN I'm letting the Skylanders sales just sail by. I actually ran out of room on the top of my shelf, and we're likely going to pick up a floating shelf to put above the TV to store the rest:

Current Count (not including pack-ins from the Games, counting by packs):
Swap Force: 20
Giants: 21
Spyro's Adventure: 18

Highlight of the past couple weeks was picking up Bash at GameStop brand new for $10 - it sells for $60.

Picked up this week, I think, from TRU and Target:

Anchors Away Gill Grunt
Big Bang Trigger Happy (not like we were going to ever pass up a Trigger Happy, considering we have 3 different plushies in the house of him)
Boom Jet
Countdown
Double Trouble (Giants)
Drobot (Lightcore)
Eruptor (Lightcore)
Fire Kraken
Flameslinger (Spyro's Adventure)
Ignitor (Spyro's Adventure)
Knockout Terrafin
Warnado (Lightcore)

There is at least a 2k1 as well:    http://www.rfgeneration.c...nfo.pl?ID=U-071-S-02680-B
or is that what you mean buy "better" baseball game? That it's better than 2k1?  Wink

Does this suddenly make all you silver box Konami guys have one more game to get?

My small scores of late are pretty much the definition of small scores....

Other than what SirPsycho sent me the other day, a coupon on Steam that was about to expire for a game I wasn't going to buy.

What a good guy!

Remember the other day when I said, in the Gaming Diary:

A friend stayed here this last weekend. We played a couple Intellivision games.

Utopia is pretty fun. I really like the mix of strategy and luck. We only played a couple games but I can see playing this more.
Well, we went to the coast yesterday, which is what we call the ocean/beach here in Oregon, and found a new old video game store is in business! The prices were kinda meh but Utopia for the SNES stood out to me. I had so much fun playing Utopia on the INTV I thought I'd take a chance on a SNES game of the same name. $8 is the most I've spent on a used game, other than a small number of truly collectables, in about forever

So, Black Friday. Not really my thing. I did buy a new game on Amazon and got a pretty awesome deal, it will be showing up soon, it's sort of a Christmas present for The Wife, and we did go to a thrift store. We didn't go to the thrift store because it was Black Friday but because it was the last Friday of the month and they run 50% off everything....and I like what they do and I try and throw money at them. When they run the 50% off everything I pretty much go and buy all their games. So, for $11, we got everything below (and another book and 5 more movies not pictured.)

Don't get too excited about the sports games.

Zagnorch is always giving me a hard time about being the calculator guy on the site. I'm pretty sure this is only the second time I've bought a calculator in the last decade. I got it because it has that really cool red led display, and who wouldn't want a calculator you have to plug in?

It was at the thrift store too, it is complete as far as I can tell. Just look at that mint carrying case, it has a belt clip even! Now I can wear that around and be prepared to calculate at any time!......any time there is a wall outlet handy anyways.

Actually, there are batteries inside. It says you can get 4-6 hours of use per charge. Unfortunately when I plugged it in, nothing happened. I opened it up and found this wonderful corrosion.

I'm going to clean it up and get some new batteries. It's too bad this thing uses 1.2 volt instead of regular 1.5 volt batteries, I'm going to have to order some  Sad

And that is how you dress up the smallest scores ever, just like Zag, you take a bunch of pictures, tell a story and call out other members on the site.....by the way, did anyone wonder why Zagnorch didn't call out SirPsycho for using his trademark introduction the other day?

Hey now....

Seriously.  I want one of those bad.

Our very own Moonrakter fats hooked me up with the 6 button 3DO controller that I've been looking for.  I also now have a Super Macho Man sticker and super secret tip for Zelda 2.  What a classy guy.

I found a little time to hit some thrifts and the local retro game store in between times running errands for Thanksgiving and doing some Christmas shopping:

This is my lone pickup from the game store, as the other things I picked up were gifts for my Secret Santa recipient.  Just waiting on one more thing for them to complete the package that hopefully be sent by about Wednesday or so.
Magic Johnson's Fast Break For NES    $2.99

Found this while looking for some final, stocking-stuffer stuff for my niece at Hasting's.  I've been a fan of the series, and hadn't yet picked this up until now.  Really looking forward to it, considering I've seen mostly positive stuff about it.
Tomb Raider For XBox 360    $14.99

These came from Goodwill, as usual stuck in with the regular CDs.  This is just feeding into my late kick in adding to my Playstation collection.  Plus, I'll bet that Barbie game is probably pretty sweet.  Roll Eyes
Barbie's Race & Ride, Spongebob Squarepants: Supersponge, And Monsters Inc. Scream Team For Playstation    $3.00 Each

Finally, these came from a local thrift store after the visit to Goodwill.  I already have a Mad Catz steering wheel for the PS1, but haven't checked the pedals out yet.  They seem to be just fine, but we'll see as soon as I hook the thing up.

As for the Plug N' Play controller, unfortunately, even though it does technically does work, it would freeze after about 15 seconds.  Opened it up, and saw that at least 2 of the AV wires are nearly cut in half, and at the moment I don't have any way to fix it.  Undecided  I'll get it done eventually, though.

Finally, I've added another Tiger handheld to my collection, this time Pinball, and it's one I had as a kid that I actually pretty much had forgotten about until I saw it sitting on a shelf among toddler's toys.  It works just fine, though it is a bit scratched up, and it's just as terrible as I remember.
Mad Catz MC2 Steering Wheel Pedals    $4.00  Generic "25 Games" Plug N' Play Controller    $2.00  Tiger Handheld Pinball    $0.50

Zelda Universe reported that Target was having the Link Between Worlds 3DS XL bundle for sale this Black Friday weekend for $149.  I happened to show the wife and commented that I wish I had $150 to go get one, because they still had 6 in stock at our local Target and she got semi-mad.  It turns out she had been to Wal-Mart and put one on layaway for me when it launched, but it launched at $220.  So she was able to take the ad to Wal-Mart and even with it on layaway and partially paid off, they price matched Target and she got the system for $150!  I was very surprised because she had said she wasn't able to get one, and had it secreted away for Christmas.  Well the cat's out of the bag now and due to some personal troubling times,  she gave it to me today!!  I'm downloading Link Between Worlds now, and I'm sure I will still buy it cuz you gotta have the physical cart.  Can't wait to play it.

Whatta kawinkydink-- check out what I picked up at GameStop today after work:

Until I saw it, I'd never seen one "in person" before. Up to that point, I thought Series 2 bash was as much a myth as a mini Super NES. And I must say, he looks pretty badass. A great sculpt, and a surprisingly detailed paint job. Dude looks like he belongs in AD&D, and is just slumming in Skylanders.

I only wish the putz who rang it up didn't drop it on the floor as he was handing it back to me. I'll damage the packaging on my own, thank you very much.

You're D*MN RIGHT you're not gonna ever pass up Trigger Happy! You might as well try to live without breathing. Oddly enough, I don't have any Trigger Happy plushies. I do, however,  have that squishy-stretchy figure that Raze sent me, as well as two Mega Bloks mini-figures and a Halloween mask.

So, you gonna free those bad boys up and play with 'em they way they were meant to be played? Or are ya gonna be a cold and callous fiend, and leave them forever encased in their prisons of cardboard and plastic? Yeah, you're sick, all right. In fact, your behavior is making me sick.

Now I'll shift my focus on another RF Gentleman who is obviously starved for attention:

Ah yes, Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms album, featuring all their notable radio hits save for Sultans of Swing. It also has one of my all-time fave tracks to just plain bliss out to: Ride Across the River. Hell, I'm listening to it on YouTube as I write this. That's a keeper for sure.

Here's a question for our Skylanders collectors, coming from a guy who has literally no clue what it is or how it works: are there any rare/OOP/retired figures that regularly fetch high prices? Do they even retire figures?
