The Small Scores Thread: Part 2!

I wanted to rebuild a section of fence today, but the wonderful Rocky Mountain wind told me no.  Ironically, the wind caused the needed fixes.  So, I decided to do some hunting.  Good thing!

Thrift Store finds:

Between three places, I found a few small goodies.  Scarface - $4, Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time for MAC - $1, And Dark Tales of Japan is actually a DVD compilation of great Japanese horror flicks.  I also found a Final Fantasy VII Greatest Hits for PS1 for $6, not pictured (see below).

Then a trip to Play n Trade:

Someone had just traded in a CIB XBox and PS2 plus games.  I didn't want any of the games, but I really wanted the XBox in box.  I thought about it while wandering around then decided against it.  All I really wanted was the cardboard.  The guys game me the box for FREE.  the Logitech Cordless Action Controller is the most comfortable 3rd party wireless controller I have ever used.  I already have two, but I will buy them up in a second.  And, aside from Microsoft, Logitech is my most trusted PC HID designer.  Always HP printers, MS keyboards, Logitech mice & headphones, and Altec Lansing speakers.  The POWER-4 when I build systems for people.

And stopping at CD World weekly has now become standard.  The guys are cool to chat with about games, music, and movies.  I've built a nice relationship with them.  Someone else that gets my love for classic horror movies and Euro Power Metal (I really wish I had a European link to great tunes - HINT HINT and I need the new Amaranthe!).  Their prices are sometimes steep, due to the database they use, but I may get close to being able to negotiate soon.  Oh, look what they just got in today:

I almost heard the SNES Model 2 whisper sweet nothings when I saw it sitting there in the case.  Must have!  Must have! Yes it was priced at $45, but the Final Fantasy VII that I purchased earlier for $6 turned into a "for you" $20 trade-in.  So the system cost me $31. 

And, while wandering around the store, I heard some new tunes playing over the speakers.  Is that Halford?  No, King Diamond.  "Is this a new Volbeat track?"  "Yeah, we got some copies in of the new album...you want one?  I can bring one out."  "OH HELL YEAH, I DO!"  14 sweet tracks by a truly awesome band.  Release date is 4/9, so you can get your copy on Tuesday.

I also grabbed a loose TI-85 calc for $4.99, and a loose TI-83 Plus for $9.99. Yay! 

I wish I'd run across those damned things when I'm out and about.  I'd build a fort out of them!

The Walking Dead (by Tell Tale Games, which has members of the old Lucasarts adventure games team) = amazing, fun as hell

Walking Dead: Survival Instincts (FPS based on parts of the TV Show) = uninspired, bad controls, shit

Also, Disgaea rules hard, and I absolutely loved renting that Rugrats Treasure Hunt 64 game as a kid. It's a Mario Party clone, and apparently it actually sucks, despite my memories. I'd still love to eventually give it another go, however.

The Five Below near me has a ton of PS2 and PSP games, among other systems. It can be very hit or miss, but I've found some really good stuff there over the years.

The store here has only been open for less than a year, and I had just assumed it was nothing more than a ritzy dollar store. I just drove up there, because of your post actually, and was only half right.

Seems like they got a good deal on a bunch of overstock from other outlets or something. What a treat seeing a shelf full of sealed budget titles for PS2, PSP, Wii, DS, and even 3DS. They even had off-brand GCN controllers!

I ended up scoring Rengoku II: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. for PSP, and a $2 buildable Metal Sonic figure in a mystery capsule. I was really hoping to get Knuckles or Sonic, but there's always next time.  Also bought The Drew Carey Show season 1 on DVD, and a Vampire encyclopedia. I spent about $20 there today.

As my grandmother would've put it, "They sure did see you coming, didn't they?"

I'll admit that's a pretty convincing photoshop deal, but I'm still not fallin' for it!

Thanks to most of the local junior colleges and universities requiring them for their calculus and trig courses, TI-8X graphing calculators aren't too hard to find 'round my neck of the woods.

I had one interesting pickup today, but I'm gonna hold off on divulging it until I have a few more pick-ups to show it off with.

Apparently I've been looking at the wrong places.  I stopped by Gamestop today to grab a present for my nephews birthday and they got more Gamecube games in since I cleaned them out a few months ago.  I also picked up Journey and Scrubs from a thrift for $2 and $3 respectively.

Couple of scores arrived in the mail today.  I bought a copy of Tapper w/ manual for the Atari 2600 on ebay on an impulse.
