The Small Scores Thread: Part 2!

Picked up an Xbox (or is it a Xbox?) with two games and also four walkthrough books yesterday. This morning the postman delivered 17 PS2 promo discs. The bad thing was that I had payed for 20 promo discs en also received 2 I didn't order. The seller promised to send me the missing five later. Let's hope he does...

Alright, been lurking for a bit and listening to the podcast, figured it's time to jump in and say hello.

Here's the small haul from this week:

Nothing too amazing, but was nice to increase the SNES shmup collection, and for some reason I've never managed to buy a copy of Doom for the 32x. Also, grabbed the Star Fox 2600 game from a local retro store just because it was an Atari 2600 game called Star Fox.

Thanks for joining in and welcome to RFGen!  Great score of SNES shmups there. Nice grab on Star Fox as well, it's the only Mythicon title I don't own.

Got a pickup at a very unlikely event today.... my buddy's 3 year old daughter's birthday! Took my son over to play some games and have a bit of cake and after being there for an hour or so my friend took me downstairs and showed me a box box of old gaming stuff. His wife's aunt was cleaning house and asked him if he was interested in a box of old games so he grabbed it all for me. Didnt ask for a dime either. He is getting ready to fix his floor up though so I expect I may be requested to help out in the near future

Anyway I've never run across any Commodore 64 stuff before. I dont think there is anything of much value, but if you're a PC guy and notice any interesting items let me know. Some of the paperwork is really neat and I love the packaging for those old floppy games. What kind of hardware would I need to play those cart based games on the C64? I'd love to hear about some of this stuff. And I'm assuming all the sticks are for the Colecovision, but let me know if I'm wrong.

My wife also grabbed me the pack-in version of NSMB Wii for $5 at a garage sale and surprised me with that after I made her lug in my new box of goodies from the car

Someone may jump in here with more info Crabmaster.....Those joysticks should work on several old computer/game consoles. The connector was kind of a standard connector back then, unlike now were all controllers are proprietary. It was like the USB of controllers back then. So they will work on the C64, Atari stuff and the like.

To play the C64 stuff you would need a C64 or C128. And a monitor that you could hook it up to. If you have a TV you can hook up a 2600 to, that would work.

I am hardly an expert, so anyone, feel free to correct me.

Those Epyx controllers are some of the best for the 2600.  That Wico with the round ball top is also a nice, harder to find controller.

Very nice Crabby! All I can say is be thankful you got a Fast Load cart if you ever want to use that disk drive. All those are Coleco controllers, and I think the white ones went with the ADAM computer.

Agreed! The Epyx buttons can get tiring, but the sticks are top notch. Noisy as all hell, though.


The album cover software releases are a great find, a lot of folks collect em, and the interiors are a good read. If you want to try out the Commodore carts and games, you shouldn't have a problem at all finding a C64 or 128. Dunno if there's a Commodore fan equivalent to AtariAge (I was raised in an Atari household), but that'd probably be a good place to find one for (nearly) nothing.

Not the most exciting pick-ups this last week, since I was working a lot and nursing a cold, but found a few nice items.

A Play 'n' Trade stop:  The PS2 controller is a replacement for my mother's console, since the nephews have yanked the controller cords to a non-working state (which is also the reason for the extension cord in the second pic).  The Little League Baseball is a duplicate for me, if someone needs it. And I love me some Rampage!  $12 for everything.

And then a few thrift store stops throughout the week:  FF X manual - $3, Sealed Plug & Play TV Sudoku - $3, DS charger for one I'm repairing - $3, PS2 Extension cord - $1, Taco Bell Breakout Promo for PC &  three PS1 games - $1 each, Traitors Gate 2 CIB - $2.

And then the weirdest handheld I've ever seen, the Thumb Thing - a handheld thump wrestler for $2.  This thing is pretty dang fun!
