perhaps I'm reading this wrong but...

Quote
A Thai man who had his right leg and five toes on this left foot amputated after his mobile phone exploded is suing Nokia

Quote
had his handset tucked in his shirt pocket at the time of the accident

if it was in his shirt pocket how did it injure his right leg and left foot? wouldn't it have blown a hole in his chest?

And Den brings up a hugely important fact in that case.

Isn't this old news? I heard about exploding nokia phones many months ago. Nokia claimed cheap 3d party batteries were the problem.

Not only that, but he is suing for 13k pounds.  Why wasn't this shit settled instantly for that price?  I mean, 13k is nothing to a company like Nokia.

Because that would be admitting guilt. While Nokia of course doesn't think it's their fault.

Take a look at the related articles on that page if you didn't see them yet.  There are several older articles about this happening to other people and about the supposed faulty batteries.  One more good reason not to own a cell phone.

Now if I hear of an N-Gage exploding, that would be ten times better than the Xboxes that catch fire.

We had one of those Xboxes when I was at Codemasters.  Everyone was sitting around working and suddenly it spontaneously combusted!

Doesn't matter, it would have prevented this bad publicity it they had settled.  Well worth the settlement cost.  They have prolly spent more fighting it than they would have spent paying the guy off.
