Loving these ads Nupoile. You know, you could submit these as Extra Media for the ones that are specific to a game and system. Just reference where the ad came from in the Extra Media description.
That's some good think'n there. I will do that. Of course, since I bet I have at least several hundred if not thousands of ad's I can scan, maybe I should wait 'til the submission drive next year.
haha [/maniacal laughter]
This week I only found one ad in each of the two Fantastic Four's I pulled out. Lucky for us though, everyone's favorite got a two page spread. I would have joined the two scans to make one nice image but figured it was more important to not have to scroll sideways.

Now that I've done this for a few weeks I've realized two things, there is a very good chance I'm going to eventually end up scanning the same ad more than once and not every comic book has video game ad's in it.
Like I've said before, I never was much into comic books or, "graphic novels"
it seemed that when I did flip through them I noticed game advertisements all the time. They must have just really stood out to me, I had to go through a few books this morning to find two different ones with good things to scan in it. Don't worry though, even with the smaller ratio of ad's/books then I was expecting, we still have more than enough to keep me busy for a long time

If you have any request's for particular time frames you'd like me to get scan's from, let me know! We have a bunch of stuff from the 90's, a fair amount from the late 80's and some stuff from the 70's-early 80's and the 2000's. If you want me to switch over from the strictly Fantastic Four comic books I've been doing so far to something else, like say, late 90's PC Gamer
I can do that too.

This thread is great. I've got tones of comics. Ill try and post a few, if I can find the time. One of my favorites is the original metal gear ad.

I used to play Tutankham a lot on the 2600 over at my cousins. I still need to track that one down at some point.

Scans from the last issue of the Fantastic Four and one of the first copies we own, which I hadn't scanned yet. Games changed a bit from 1983 to 2011...or did they?
Again, I decided to
not
put the two page ad's together for you, I think making these scans consistently sized is a better aesthetic for this forum.
If anyone wants a higher resolution of anything, let me know! I scan these at a much, much, higher dpi and downsize them to post here.
On a side note, there are all sorts of cool ad's in these comic books, not just video game ones. I keep seeing ones for TSR tabletop games that are pretty cool, old Kool-Aid stuff, candy, Grit magazine (which I've seen countless advertisements for but never once an actual copy of) and all sorts of things, I'm having fun.

This morning I had to go through 7 or 8 comic books, from the older issues, to find one with video game stuff in it. This led to an exciting revelation. The books I was going through were from the 1984-86 range, right during the 'post crash' era. So I concluded the crash didn't happen because of a huge glut of shovelware, it was because publishers stopped paying for ads in Fantastic Four comic books!
The first set of ads are from 2008. I don't even know about the Mushroom Men game, it says there is music from Les Claypool though.

The next set is from 1990. Three NES games, I'm sure there is more than a couple people on this forum who likes looking at these

This last one isn't a video game but I think it fits in with what we're doing here. I never could believe people would pay this much to call a phone number. $1.50 for the first minute $0.75 per minute after that. Arcade machines aren't even
that
cruel.

I can tell the scans I've been putting up must be amazing. They have shocked the conversation right out of you guys
We get a decent mix of NES, TG16 and 360 ad's today. Wrath of the Black Manta, LJN....what more could a person want?
Some of these pictures look a little blurry, they look that way in real life. My scanner is doing its job but these old comic books weren't printed to the highest quality.

You can use this link to view the next two pictures put together if you like. Since it reads like a comic across two pages I made it a little easier to read, but it's the same two images as below. I almost missed it until my second time flipping through this issue and happened to catch the TG16 logo on the bottom right.

I'm digging the Konami ad. I wonder if those were real papers specially printed for the ad, and if they still exist?

I went back and looked at them, the smallest text on the newspapers is not readable. It looks like it was actual writing though. If I had to guess I would say they did print up at least that front page to make the prop. The problem is that they just didn't use a very high resolution or quality paper, details can be pretty hard to make out.
Shadow, I keep finding a bunch of TSR tabletop game ad's. Some of them are pretty neat. I keep debating on putting some of those up too.
