EarthBound now on Nintendo eShop!

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but earlier today I saw that Nintendo posted on Facebook that EarthBound is coming to the Nintendo eShop (YAY!). Also I have a question for everyone with the deluxe Wii U. I know it has more storage than the basic (white) model, but do any of you guys use a certain external storage device for downloading eShop games? The reason I ask is because I am kind of weird with my Wii U, instead of filling it up with games and then using a storage device to store more games, I would rather store all games I download to the external device. I would rather have as much space possible free on the actual Wii U. Is there a certain device Nintendo makes or recommends? Since I have had my Wii U, I haven't downloaded a single game from the eShop, but I think that's about to change. I was just curious as to what everyone else did.

Looking for CIB NES games..........even Silent Service.
I once made the mistake of smelling a NES cart. Man, the last guy that blew in it must have had bad breath, because it smelled like a sack full of assholes.

i haven't gotten around to buying an external drive for it yet but i also don't really buy anything from the eshop. i'm not sure if there's an official nintendo drive to use, but i don't see why you couldn't use a generic one, i know they're supposed to work fine...it would probably be cheaper than nintendo, with no real lack in quality if you get a good hard drive brand.

Nintendo has a list of hard drives tested with the Wii U but they say any drive with an external power source should work fine.

If you already have a USB powered HD around the place, you can use that too provided you have a Y Cable for it.

Hopefully this will drive the prices of the cart down...

Too early to tell right now but, yeah, really hoping it drops a bit.

Of course this happens two months after I break the bank on my physical copy.

...from February to July, it's dropped ~$50. We'll see how much further down it goes.

I think we'll see a short term price dip, but eventually it will begin to climb again. I doubt that many people that were paying for the cartridge were doing so to just play it and not collect it. If they just wanted to play it they could easily emulate it.

100% agree. I'd be curious to know if any of the digital re-releases of sought after games noticeably affected the prices of the physical copy in the long-term. I would assume that they haven't.

Guardian Heroes seems to have started to rebound from its price drop on digital release. I'll be watching Earthbound and Shantae, but I expect the same.
Shantae, to me, has the bigger potential for short term dips since the 3DS has a much larger install base compared to Wii U. People that want to play Earthbound aren't going to go out and buy a Wii U for it since the cart is cheaper.

The Virtual Console release may influence a small and short lived price drop for the cart. But EarthBound is a game that's bought to be collected. Duke's right. The price will continue to drop and increase over time. Like anything, there will be peaks and valleys.
I was only being sarcastic in my first remark about the timing of the Virtual Console release and me buying the game.

For what it's worth Persona 2 went up on PSN within about a week of me obtaining a copy. The price took an ever so mild dip and is now slightly higher than it was pre-digital release.

I'd add too that the PSP port of Valkyrie Profile did nothing to the value of the Playstation original.
I'm sure there are countless other examples. I'm with the general consensus here that Earthbound and all these other games a sought after for their collectability. Besides, I know not everyone is into emulation but that's been out there forever too.

i would imagine it depends on why the original release is expensive. if it's entirely due to demand, then a re-release would probably lower the price. if it was a low print run or actually rare for some other reason, then the re-release would probably have little to no effect. i don't know enough about Earthbound to really say what will happen.
