Got some new albums this week, so that's what I've been listening to:

Minus the Bear "Planet of Ice" - Seems to be pretty similar to their previous albums. Solid "mid-tempo rock" (that's what my musician friends call it Smiley ).

Earlimart "Mentor Tormentor" - Really, really good album. These guys are becoming one of my favorite bands. Mellow indie-style rock with an electronic element. Nice harmonies that remind me of "Your Majesty" by The Anniversary.

Travis Morrison Hellfighters "All Y'all" - Quirky album from the former lead singer of the Dismemberment Plan. Has some really good tracks and some bad ones.

Rilo Kiley "Under the Blacklight" - It might be too early to tell, as this MAY grow on me, but I can't remember the last time I was so disappointed with an album. They have been one of my 5 favorite bands for years now, mostly because of their timid-yet-emotional style. They lost a bit of that on their last album and I hoped that they would rebound with this one, but it's just not there.

Illmatic by Nas.

A classic in EVERY sense of the word. Deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Dark Side Of The Moon, Sgt. Pepper, Velvet Underground and Nico, and London Calling.

While clearing things on my hard drive I came across an old old folder from 2005 with loads of Mashups in it. I thought I had lost them all. Some good songs in there, like

Beastie Boys Vs Run DMC
Snoop Dog Vs Guns N Roses
Green Day Vs Oasis
50 Cent Vs Bee Gees
Prodigy Vs Beck

Wincing The Night Away by The Shins.

I still think this might be my favorite album of the year. Just about every song on here is a catchy indie pop masterpiece.

Rather Ripped by Sonic Youth

I like this album because Kim Gordon actually sings a lot on it, and doesn't really scream or anything like on the previous albums. Her songs on the album are some of the best she's ever done with Sonic Youth.

David Gilmour - On An Island

It's nice and mellow. Soft on the ears, which is good for listening to in the evening. Gilmour did a live concert of this album on TV last Saturday but it was at 11pm and I was tired so I only saw half an hour of it.

Roger Waters - The Pros And Cons Of Hitchiking
Roger Waters - Amused To Death

I was listening to them last night. One was a bit dull and the other one sounded like The Wall. Not too bad but nothing that stands out. But I've only listened to them once so I'll have to listen again to let it sink in before I make a real opinion on it.
