EA has killed the online pass program from this point forward.

“Yes, we’re discontinuing Online Pass,” EA senior director of corporate communications John Reseburg confirmed to GamesBeat in an e-mail. “None of our new EA titles will include that feature

Ok, first I thought this was about "Season" Pass. Which I paid for and like and would have been bad.

This is good.

Sure, let's just patch that for you. You require 90 days notice, right?

It looks good on the surface but there are those who think that EA doesn't mind killing this program because next gen xbox and PS4 games will ship with cd keys similar to PC games that lock the game to a single user.

It just seems a little odd that whenever Microsoft or Sony execs are asked the question "can the new system play used games" they don't have a straight answer or have to talk to the public relations person before saying anything.

Yeah, I'm with Bil on this one.  It'll be a good thing for whatever games EA decides to release for the 360/PS3, but who knows what's going to happen on the next gen systems.

Sony has already confirmed they are not killing used games. To be honest anybody that tries to do it will dig their own grave as the competition will swoop in and say, "Hey, you can buy used games for OUR system!"

But, that is the only thing Sony has said about used games.  They haven't said anything about potential fees related to playing those used games.

That's a journalistic tactic called 'speculation'. There is no truth or research behind any of it, I remember all those articles popping up right after Sony just said, "You can play used games on PS4," and all these 'games journalists' that wanted views and ad revenue were creating unverifiable BS claims along the lines of, "What did that really mean? Are there hidden fees?"

Even charging a fee would be suicide now that EA is getting rid of online passes. Again, competition just goes, "You can play used games on our system FOR FREE!" I don't even have a business degree and this is clear as day for me, so those that are already on the inside have known this since the beginning of R&D.

Conspiracy theorists - what if the 1st party groups participate in collusion and all have fees for used game licenses? What position would this leave Nintendo in? MUAHAHAHA.

...I'll step down off the Nintendo soapbox in a few days, but stirring the pot is fun.
