I just read a little bit of fanfiction last night, because I'm becoming addicted to weird crossovers.

Been rereading Bill Bryson's travel books. The Lost Continent, Notes from a Small Island, and Neither Here nor There. Going to start A Walk in the Woods next.

I'm trying to read A Tale of Two Cities. My high school teachers were not joking when they said it was an incredibly hard read.

Finishing up In a Sunburned Country by Bryson then have to decide if I want to reread his science-minded books.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood.
It is scarily believable.

Eh, maybe in a Muslim world. I think we've moved well past the possibility of any sort of Christian based patriarchal takeover in this country. Atwood was writing in a time when the liberal college crowd thought there would never be an end to the reign of Reagans, and likewise that Reagan was the worst thing to ever happen to the country.
Currently working on Small Gods by Terry Prachett.

I appreciate the context Leon, and you're right. The pendulum has swung far away from the Christian right, for now. However what scares me about the book besides a possible theocratic takeover is the way she applies what we know from reading histories of other totalitarian regimes and applies them to our country.
I may be overselling it, and we've all read our share of dystopian novels, and I've read more than my share of memoirs from behind the iron curtain. This book falls in line with the better ones, I'm just enjoying it a lot because I like this kind of stuff.
