Zaxxon FTW, b!tch3z!!!

BTW I recall seeing a few print ads for Kid Grid back in the day, and they actually got me curious to try that game. Sadly, I've never had the opportunity to play it.

Have you ever played it yourself? And if so, would you recommend it?

I was playing it on Cart today ( Not the disk version in the picture, so I can not say if there is any difference in quality). I would highly recommend the time to play this game. The controls are pretty good and controller action is well done.Im still getting use to the South West to North easy scrolling but its easy to get use to. Graphics are pretty good too. Overall I was impressed with this game.  Makes me want to try Super Zaxxon ( when i can afford a copy of it )

Another posting I would like to make is with a thank you from our forum member Slackur. He had a group of games that didn't work on his system and he sent them my way in hopes they would find a new home and in hopes that I can get them working.

Speedway blast by idsi and Star Wars the arcade game by Parker bros worked flawless
Gorf didn't work like with his system but in my research it is like imagics demon attack where it only plays on the 400/800 an not the xe series. I'm looking for my 800 so I can test out the game.

His last game one on one basketball has a corrupt rom ( it appears) it only loads part of the demo on start up an jams. No amount of cleaning helped with this and appears to be a lost cause.

The cassette and seems to be in mint shape but hasn't been tested yet.

I plan on taking care of Slackur for his more than generous donations and wanted to publicly let the board know how awesome this member is and how much of an asset he is to the board.

Heres some pics from my package today. The games are mostly sold off already BUT I got 50 new manuals that I could add to the collection.

You, Mr. Scooter, are a (RF)Gentleman and a (A8) Scholar.  I do so love hearing about your neat A8 finds; its truly brought out an interest, even fascination with a machine I previously had little awareness of.

To everyone on the boards; Scooter has traded and sold a huge wealth of gaming goodness to me that really lit a fire for A8 gaming, and he's just such a nice guy about it.  If you have any interest in Atari gaming, I thoroughly encourage you to track down an A8 machine and keep in touch with Scooter here, as his passion for this largely forgotten gaming platform is infectious and a ton of fun.

Incidentally, the cover of Defender always made me wonder why a Republic Star Destroyer was shooting innocent looking ghosts in future Greece, but I hear the 'expanded universe' books took all kinds of liberties. ;P

I wondered that too. Looking at the picture and thinking about how Star wars game out in 1977 and this in 79 if it was a knockoff style photo from something that could have been in star wars. It was the time to cash in on the scifi, space theme. Think about it  Space Invaders, Asteroids, Defender, Zaxxon, Star Raiders, then you had the Star Wars released titles by parker bros. Those all came out between 1979-1983. Then after the crash and outside of a few sequels, ( Star Raiders II, ( stargate / defenderII on Atari 2600) Super Zaxxon ) we seemed to move into more Flying style games instead of space games. Flight Sim 2, Blue Max, River Raid, Ace Of Aces. Rescue on Fractious (Sp). Aerial games have been a big part of the atari 8 bit line outside of the arcade classics. I kinda feel like thats most of what the atari computer line had. Space/Flying games, Sports and Arcade. A few mixed in here and there like Miner 2049er and Pengo, and then your Utility software carts ( which is a bigger line than most realize). Now those Utility software carts are rarer I feel than any game on the market today since they wasnt collected in the day and many were tossed out as the times changed and Disk software took off and the outdated 8 bit computer line were replaced by Atari ST, Amiga computer line, Commodore line, and ultimately  IBM, Apple and Radio Shack brands.

I'd love to get into Atari. Aside from the few classic games that get rereleased I really know nothing about them. I don't think I've ever even played an Atari and if I did I was too young to remember. Props Scooter!

The longer I do this the harder its gonna get to find carts and such i can use. Im on the verge of finishing off some company worth of games now ( parker bros im 1 away from a full set, and 2 away from a full atari brown label set) . And im starting to replay everything and evaluate the games for my website. What i need to start finding is hardware accessories. that will be tricky to find being 30 yrs out of when items came out.  Items like the 1050 drives i have enough and can even trade one away if something good and fair came along but add ons like numerical keypads, 800 series printers modems and interface modules will be harder to locate.

That disc drive is pretty neat. Having to open the clear door is cool. I like it when there are extra mechanical steps to do on old hardware which we would think as being silly on current products. Even how you have to move the level to close 5.25" drives is fun.

Your phone is neat too.

And I like how you put up the paper towels   Cheesy
