as Duke would say that is.

so i was reading tadpole13's blog post about the hoarding aspect of collecting, and it inspired me to do another audit of my collection. now that's all fine and good.

here's where it gets tricky. i've only been buying games CIB now (99% of the time) and really really prefer it that way, as well as slowly replacing my loose (and GH/PC/Plat.) games with CIB copies. my idea is that, barring a few exceptions, i'm going to sell off all my loose games (yes all) and use that money towards completing my CIB n64 set. i'd also use some of the money of course towards getting CIB copies of some of the gems from each of the systems i sold off loose games for.

exceptions:
 - loose games with manuals and only need the box can stay
 - games with save files that i'd rather not lose can stay until i get a CIB copy so i can swap my cart for the new one and keep the save that way
 - games that are somewhat rare + hard to find CIB (like international superstar soccer 2000) can stay

yes it's the cardboard sickness. this, combined with an audit, would potentially cut my collection size down by at least 1/3. someone talk me out of this idea, i haven't decided yet if it's good or not.

i know in the long term it'll be great. it's the short term i'm worried about, because for a while that will mean a lot of good games being sold off. NES and SNES will be the hardest hit by this idea.

To better my CIB collection, I've found that purchasing just the missing pieces online is much cheaper and more enjoyable than buying the big nut all at once.  I would recommend you consider that route for the cheaper games that won't net you much when sold.  And if you need the inserts, videogameprotectors.com is a great source.

the problem with the much cheaper games (say less than $10) is that to ship each part separately often costs as much or more than getting a complete copy. it seems that way for a lot of the cartridge systems at least. the more expensive ones benefit more from that, but then there's the problem of people rarely selling them in parts.

edit: well either way i need to do an audit, so for now i'll start with that and think about this for a while.

i haven't had it from the start, i started without any real direction.

i went through and pulled out 65 games that i feel i can sell and not miss at all. not too few or too many so i'm happy about that. still trying to decide about selling the loose stuff.

That sounds like a good plan. Probably a good idea is you're running low on space to store/display everything. Best of luck my friend! If there's any way I can help out just drop me a line.

I'm also going to echo that buying individual parts to make a CIB game is tough because Canadian buyers get hit hard with shipping fees.

...only 65? I wish. I've got close to 800-1000 items I need to sell off to clean up my CIB collection.  laugh
Really wish I had time to sit down and list everything out. I'd be a lot more motivated if it were only 65.

i meant the 65 is what i pulled for an audit, that's not all the loose stuff. i'm going to take a look at what i would have left if i pulled everything off and left the exceptions i listed earlier. it might not be as many as i think, because i have a decent chunk that already have a manual.

ok so this is before: http://i.imgur.com/ceMTQ53.jpg

and this is after an audit and removing loose ones that don't fit the exceptions listed above: http://i.imgur.com/HaW4tjt.jpg

edit: ignore the piles of carts at top right, those were taken off too
