It turns on... that's all i know, but i figure the sega pack was more than worth the price.

Very nice. I passed on one with the Sega and TG-16 packs a while back due to the cost, but I've not seen a Laserdisc player, let alone a Pioneer CDL, in years.

The cost on this was too good to pass up, a bit rough on the outside and missing the knob but fingers crossed that it works. I will be testing this later today when I get home.

Well, the system plays Genesis games... that's about it. The drive won't spin. I took the case off and had a look, the laser lights up and moves on the track just fine but the disc never spins
Anyone got a link to a good troubleshooting guide?
Edit: O, and inside the system was "Ferris Bueller's day off" Bonus

Try cleaning the spindle. If that doesn't help, you may need to replace the motor. I know there are a few people around here who are familiar with similar repairs on consoles.

I hope it's something simple but from what I've read so far on the net there seams to be a sensor for everything!

Seems like a pretty great grab. I look forward to hearing how it turns out.

Awesome pick up! I bought one just like it at a flea market for $15.
Mine didn't come with Ferris Bueller, though.

Well, I've messed with it some more and from what I can determine on my own it appears that either the spindle motor is bad or something related to it... I'm going to tear it apart and see if I can test the motor by itself. Maybe I'll take some pics while it's all "naked" Does anyone here have experience with these units? Or Laserdisc repair in general? I'm kinda going into this blind...

Luke Morse put out a repair video on one the same day you asked. Turns out his was working, but the video shows how to clean and maintain one:

I've traced the problem down to a supply issue to the spindle motor. The motor is functional but both pins at the PSU show 5V when play is pressed. Only one pin should be supplying power and should be more than 5V initially. I'm very limited on proper test equipment and having trouble figuring out if the issue is on the PSU or the video board (sends +/- signal to PSU). If I can't figure it out I may need to take it in for repairs. Probably a bad solder or component on one of the two boards.
