In light of the results of the most recent auction for a sealed, first-print US copy of Pier Solar (~$400), I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm never going to open mine, and thus, the game has very little entertainment value to me besides being pretty sitting on a shelf.

So, do I keep it in the hopes that it becomes even more valuable? Or do I sell it now and use the money to acquire one of the more difficult/valuable SNES RPG titles that I don't yet have (Chrono Trigger CIB, E.V.O. CIB, etc)?

Help me decide! Persuade me with arguments! Call me a douche for being a re-seller!

YOU DOUCHE!!!

Unfortunately 2 ways to look at it. Strike while the iron is hot. Everyone who wants it will end up getting their copies and those who still do might be holding out for inevitable price drops and loss of interest. More copies could be made, bootlegs, other various things to cause price drop.

Or hold onto it. There was a limited press run. Sealed copies are probably getting opened to be played by people who really want to play it. Prices can only keep going up as time goes by. Nintendo stuff in general has been on a rise as of late. Or so it seems.

Glad i could not help Smiley

The thing is, they've already done one run of reprints, and are in the process of doing another. On top of that, they're currently in the process of making and releasing an HD version for Dreamcast, PSN and XBox live.

But yeah, this particular version was a limited run of 800. Who knows how many of those have remained sealed. Probably not very many. Half? A quarter?

I have a sneaking feeling that the price is probably gonna come down after the wide(r) release of the HD version...

Ahhh i forgot about that HD version coming out.
Still a tough call. ChronoTrigger still has spike tremendously since that got a rerelease(i think i got around 75$s for my CIB copy :-/)

But things like MvC and specifically MvC2(if memory serves) have come down in price since those got rereleases.

If it isn't something you are particularly attached to and don't think you need it for part of your SNES collection i'd suggest selling it to fund something you do need to complete your collection.

Honestly, I think it'll go down in price - SNES has been skyrocketing in price the past couple years.

SNES prices are INSANE right now. It's shocking. I've been thinking about making a blog post, specifically focusing on the core "Holy Grail" games and the staggering prices they've reached recently. There's probably a dozen games that are selling regularly for $100+ loose, which is almost impossible to believe.

Update: I listed it, with an intentionally high Buy It Now of $499. Interested to see what kind of offers I get.

That's what I was going to suggest.  Even though I hate seeing listings for a high buy it now price, but they do benefit the seller, and if someone wants it bad enough, they will buy it.

Looking for CIB NES games..........even Silent Service.
I once made the mistake of smelling a NES cart.  Man, the last guy that blew in it must have had bad breath, because it smelled like a sack full of assholes.

From what i gather N64 and GCN have both been on pretty significant uptrends with prices too.
I could very well be wrong though. Someone please feel free to correct me.

Certain N64 and GameCube stuff has definitely skyrocketed over the past year.

@BED: I'd say sell it.  They've done numerous reprints, and with quite a few ports coming along soon, I think the value will tank a bit.  I sold mine about a year or so after it came out, and I definitely didn't get $400.

Glad to see that there is some consensus here.

I plan on starting my SNES blog on the site tonight. Won't be ridiculously deep, not at first anyway. I'll just highlight some of the crazy prices I've seen things to for lately as I've shifted my collecting primarily to the system.

So, funny story: got the entire $499.99 Buy It Now price for my copy.

I'm shocked, too.

So what do I spend it all on?
