OK, I think I have finally watched it all between the two offerings. My take?

1. Hardware seems promising, but there is nothing here that is incredibly surprising. More RAM than I would have guessed, but it seems like a solid architecture. They seemed to have learned their lesson after CELL. Built in video encoding/decoding not terribly surprising either with Gaikai being a part of it. Nice to see them use it in the reverse direction with the sharing though.

2. Dual Shock 4, just integrating the move into the controller and adding a touchpad. I'm a little disappointed that there is no screen at all, but wasn't holding my breath. Had to chuckle to myself a little when I heard they were improving the rumble. Didn't these guys say that feature was dead with the PS2 at some point? Wink

3. 3D camera - They just took the final step from the slow incorporation of Wii and Kinect tech. Completes the cycle, and shows us that motion gaming is here to stay.

4. Games? Where there any? I kid, but just a little. Nothing here at all to interest me at this point. I am a little surprised at the lack of them, but no doubt we'll here more soon and they don't want to kill the PS3's title sales off.

Overall, it seemed subdued but solid. It left me with a lot of questions, especially with physical titles. I have to assume at this point it will still be Blu-ray. I've said before that if it goes all digital I am out. I'll keep an eye on it, and am interested to see Microsoft's retort.

The pricepoint and physical media implementation are the key features that I'm most curious about. Personally speaking, the streamed content focus, further integration of social features, and the announced IP sequels that were the focus of the conference didn't hold interest for me.  I'm curious, but so far Nintendo has more exclusives I'm interested in, and that surprised me.

Watching the press conference now. Must be a rerun. I like what this console has to offer the connectivity/social networking aspect is very intriguing. The power and capabilities of this system sound very promising. Although I must admit I feel like we're getting awfully close to the uncanny valley.

Watch Dogs looks incredible. I really like the concept. And a next-gen Final Fantasy has me all giddy.

The only thing that had me really psyched was when they said Blizzard was joining them on stage. I was thinking "Finally Diablo III!!! Now I'm gonna need a PS4". He then told me it was coming out on PS3 so all that excitement immediately faded. None of the games got me excited. Sad

If games are still being made for PS3 and a PS4 is set to release within the year I'm a bit confused. Does Sony want us to jump on the bandwagon of the next generation because with something like Diablo III coming out on both Playstations I don't understand what Sony is doing.

I guess both will be supported for a while before the PS3 is dropped completely. In other words the PS3 is a Porsche and the PS4 is a Formula 1 race car.

I don't know what you're talking about, PS2 still had games coming out for it up until last year the last time I checked.

There are some close up pictures of the DualShock 4 here: http://www.ps3trophies.or...With-the-DualShock-4.html

I've never had a problem with prior DualShock joysticks being convex, but these look like they'll function better.

I was thinking to myself that the controller looks like it will be small and harder to hold, but the side profile looks the PSMove Navigation controller, which is very comfortable.  Also, triggers that make sense!  My fingers won't slip now!

I just mean that by Sony having two consoles available (especially one that supersedes its predecessor)at the same time what is Sony trying to say? Why release the latest, greatest device without it replacing the previous generation right from the get-go?

When has any console been released AFTER the death of its predecessor?
The US release of the Dreamcast is the only one if that i can think of. And i might even be wrong with that.

Xbox still got games after 360
PS2 got games after PS3
PSX got games after PS2
Wii is still getting games and WiiU isn't (lulz yea i went there)
etc
etc

Yeah, I don't mind a little social media now and then but I'm not looking forward to the barrage of tweets and fb updates when friends reach a certain level in game X.
