Game Gear trouble

Well, what it does is with BRAND NEW batteries it turns on and then turns right back off when I use the AC adapter it turns on but the screen is black with white vertical bars in it and sometimes it plays sound.

does anyone know whats wrong with it or if it can be fixed?

The most likely problem is bad capacitors on the circuit board. Sega put cheapies in to keep costs down, and they'd fail fairly quickly as a result.

If you're good with soldering, you can replace the capacitors yourself. EBay has plenty of sellers who offer replacement sets, some with illustrated instructions.
