Quote
The stories tell of a golden age long ago, when our civilization spanned the system.  It was a bright and hopeful time, but it didn't last.  Something hit us, knocked us down, and tried to stamp us out.  No one knows exactly what, but we do know this.  Very few of us survived, and those who did owe their very lives to the Traveler.

Legends say the Traveler sacrificed itself to save us.  The mysterious sphere still hangs where it made its last stand... low above the Earth keeping silent watch.

The years that followed the collapse of the golden age were hard, but slowly we joined together to build a city beneath the Traveler, and now we've begun to venture back into the wild only now to find that we are not alone.  Strange and deadly creatures have occupied our old worlds, and they're pressing hard against the city, probing for a weakness, trying to stamp us out for good.

Your story begins at this moment of great adventure and peril.  You are a guardian of the city, a soldier able to wield some of the Traveler's incredible power.  If you can find a way to save the city, to reclaim all that we have lost, you will become legend.  If you fail the last light of civilization will go out.

Little details have been released about the game, but all previews have indicated an open world and conspicuously shunned the term "MMO".  I'm quietly excited, but more importantly, I'm more interested in the mystery being presented.

Be brave.

Looks good though I have my doubts with the generic looking FPS footage...We can only hope the company that made the Myth games and Halo 1 is still rattling around in that Halo empire bloated head somewhere.

Also wish there was a PC release...

Hm. Hadn't heard of this until very recently. I'll admit that the footage had me interested - I'm a sucker for sci-fi - but was bummed to find out that it'll be another FPS. Not my favorite genre, to say the least.

Looking around the web, here are some of the web's impressions from a media event earlier this week.

IGN - long feature
IGN - short version
Joystiq Q&A
Gamespot - What [Destiny] is (and isn't) all about

Adam Sessler's first impressions

Just a FYI, there is no offline play.  An internet connection is always required.

Lol, another FPS.

"Let's quit Microsoft  and Halo so we can do something completely different and new!"

*proceed to make a sci-fi FPS that looks just like Halo.* Grin

I do wonder how much of this is going to be a real FPS and how much of it an RPG with an FPS facade, like Borderlands.

Sounds intriguing what Sessler says. Also kind of sounds like they're making an mmo.

I still don't get how they're going to support a persistent online world without a subscription.

Rumor is that the new consoles will require an online-persistent connection, so doubt it'll matter.

If it is, that's only Xbox. PS4 can play offline.....
