Your top 5 video game finds of 2012

Another year over, time to look back at what 2012 brought to your collection!
I've recorded a video of the 5 items I got in 2012 that I consider the best additions to my collection
I'm curious to see what your top 5 is and why you choose those 5 (or 3, or 10, or 100 whatever you prefer ^^)

I like this idea. I think I'm going to expand on it a bit by revisiting my best scores of the year and not just individual games. There were quite a few before I started posting on RFGen again, so it won't hurt to "recreate" those so to speak.

Great finds, and love this idea. I don't know about making a video, but I will post some pics of my top 2012 pics.
Paid 100 for this lot. Flipped the games for 80. So basically 20 for a LIKE NEW 3DS.

Paid 20 for this. Found it among the power tools at a flea market.

I found this at a local Second Hand shop for 15

I think I paid 20 for this clean really nice NES Lot

And my favorite find was this REALLY NICE Coleco System w/ Roller Controller and games.

Not to bad considering I didn't get back to collecting/hunting until around September after about a 2 year absence.
Edit: Changed one of my top pics. Had to kick out the PS1 RPG Lot for the Sealed Bible Adventures.

This has been a pretty down year for me as far as retro games go. I've picked up a decent amount, but nothing much that really jumps out at you as "Holy shit, how cool". However, There are still a bunch of finds for me that rank as my personal favorite:
#5. A tie between Rocksmith for the 360 and Ninja Gaiden: Worlds of Power Book

I couldn't decide which one to leave off, so they both made it on. It's a Christmas miracle! Anyways, I just got Rocksmith a week ago and as I mentioned in the small scores thread, I've been searching for this for a decent price for the better part of a year. It became something of a grail to me.
The Worlds of Power book stuck out in my mind because I remember when this first came out, I read it almost everyday for an entire month. I loved this book so much. It finally got taken away by a teacher when I was reading it in her class. When the end of the year came I forgot to go see her to get it back and I remember being crushed when she said she didn't have it at the begining of the next year. Finding another copy at a used book store a few months ago made me so stupidly happy. It's not much, but for that reason alone it had to make my top 5
#4 $5 Big Box PC game haul

This pick up got me interested in collecting PC games. I was at a flea market in the fall and was getting ready to leave. I saw the box for Diablo and figured I'd look at them. The guy that was running the both came over and said he would give me the whole box for $5 and I said yes without a second thought. I always wanted to play Diablo and Warcraft II, so I figured those two alone were worth the $5. After I brought them home and displayed them with the other few big box games I collected over the year made me realize how awesome they looked. Now I look for PC games just as much as any other system.
#3 Even More Big Box games!

If the last score got me interested in collecting PC games, this is what put it over the top. I'd heard that I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream was one of the better horror games ever created, so I'd been scouring Ebay for a copy for a few months. I could never find a copy complete with the box for under $60, so I figured I would just have to download it from somewhere to play it. Then one day I was doing my normal daily Craigslist check and I saw all of those games for sale, plus a few loose games and some application software. The guy wanted $35 for the whole box and I snapped it up the second I saw it. Not only did it have I Must Scream, but Zork, Myst, and Riven on top of that? Hell yes.
#2 Gamestop PS2 haul

So Gamestop were clearancing out all of their games marked $2 and under. Anything from $1-2 was buy 2 get two free and anything $.99 and under was 10 for a dollar. I ended up getting right around 50 games for about $14. I didn't find out about this sale until the day before it was supposed to end, so I always wondered how much I would have gotten if I would have jumped on it from day 1. Kind of scary.
#1 Atari 2600 rarities

I picked these up in the spring of this year for $3 a piece. I bought a few other games along with these, but they were commons that I can't remember now. According to Atari Age, these games are R5s and 6s. Digital Press has them lower or higher, so I guess it depends on where you look. Regardless, these instantly became the rarest 2600 games I own. Even today, a full 7 months later I can still remember how excited I was to find these. I even called my wife to tell her about my amazing luck. She gave me the typical "Honey, I don't care at all, but I'll feign intrest for your sake" wife response. Well, shit. I thought it was cool at least.

My Top 5 for 2012 aren't necessarily my most valuable finds, just the ones I found the most pleasantly surprising.
Well, except for #1, but that's another story.
And away we go.
#5: Atari Lynx portable system, model II, $7.00

I'd forgotten Atari put out a portable system when I discovered this at a Savers thrift.
Then again, so had everyone else.
It came with a copy of
California Games
, but couldn't play it. Needless to say, I was worried that the unit might have been broken. That was, until I bought a few CIB Lynx games online from a local seller. Fortunately, the other games played on it just fine. Yay!
#4: Complete Boxed Japanese
Samba de Amigo
Maraca set for Dreamcast with CIB
Samba de Amigo
Vers. 2000 game, $7.99

The Goodwills dotting southern end of the San Francisco bay are surprisingly good places to find Japanese games, consoles, and peripherals. And this was the biggest pickup of its kind for me in 2012. Not only was everything in really good condition, the game itself was included, all for a penny under eight bucks! Now I just need a Japanese Dreamcast to see if the thing actually works...
#3: My Wii U game collection, $14.99 to $24.99 per title

You read the heading correctly-- I paid no more than $25.00 for any one of the Wii U games you see in the photo above, all of which are Target-salvage bought at various south bay Goodwills. And even though there are almost 20 Goodwills in and near the Silicon Valley, and almost as many Targets to donate salvage games-- not to mention it was the height of the holiday shopping season-- I was floored by the number of Wii U games I uncovered, all of which I bought, and most of which I resold.
BTW you can hear more about my good fortune with Wii U pickups in the following CollectorCast segment:
http://www.youtube.com/em...SM?start=770&end=1001
#2: $100 Babies-R-Us gift card

My dad found this lying in a parking lot one day, picked it up, and sent it to me, figuring it probably didn't have any credit on it. Being more optimistic, I figured it contained $25 at most. Imagine the shock I experienced when I discovered it had a hundy in credit on it! So I did what any sensible person would do, and used it to buy a
Skylanders Giants
Wii starter set, figures, and strategy guide.
#1 to be revealed at a later time.

I'm going to list 5 things in the order I remember them, seeing as I can't really choose my top items.
This isn't counting items bought online... I don't find much old gaming stuff in the wild.
Clear Game Boy Pocket - Found at a boot fair for £1. Had Wave Race in it.
Glacier Game Boy Advance - Found while on holiday. Was either £4 or £5. Boxed with poster but no manuals.
Global Defense and Super Monaco GP II - £0.50 each in a charity shop (Cancer Research UK). All boxed + manuals.
Lemmings, Ecco the Dolphin and Batman (All Mega Drive) - I believe these were £2 each in a charity shop (The Heart of Kent Hospice). All boxed + manuals.
Faulty Philips Hard disk/DVD recorder 160 GB - Free. Not really a gaming item, but I put the hard drive from it into my PS2.
There are more items, but those are the first 5 to pop into my head.

i didn't do a whole lot of shopping locally for used games in 2012, at least not nearly as much as i did in the past, so i don't really have that many finds. i'd say probably my best would be the 10 gamecube and 1 xbox games i picked up free from work, which included windwaker and mario kart double dash, all working and most are CIB. besides that i can't think of much else...i did pick up a saturn, turbo grafx-16, and original xbox for reasonable prices though, all systems i've been meaning to get for a long time.
