Question about N64 player's choice titles
«

Ok. I have a question. There are some Nintendo 64 games that were million sellers, where the only diffference was a sticker on the box or printing on the box. Is tht correct? If that is correct, then is it also correct to say that a cartridge from a first run, and a cartridge from a million seller run have NO difference what so ever? Any help is greatly appreciated! Here is the list for reference!
1080° Snowboarding
Banjo-Kazooie
Bomberman 64
Bomberman Hero
Cruis'n USA
Donkey Kong 64
F-Zero X
F-1 World Grand Prix
Goldeneye 007
Kobe Bryant in NBA Courtside
Mario Kart 64
Perfect Dark
Pokémon Snap
Pokémon Stadium
StarFox 64
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Super Mario 64
Super Smash Bros.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Wave Race 64

there's (in most cases) also a player's choice logo on the cartridge label too. as far as i know none of the game content is any different in any of them. there are other people that know more about it than me for sure on here though so i'm sure they would have more to add
.
also there's a more complete list here than the one you posted:
http://nintendo.wikia.com...er%27s_Choice#Nintendo_64
i haven't confirmed myself if it's accurate but it looks accurate from a quick skim over.

AFAIK, most PC games are the same as their non-PC version. A notable exception is Ocarina of Time. The PC versions were version 1.2, which changed Ganon's blood to green and removed some Muslim chants, I believe. I haven't played through the PC version of most games, but from hundreds of hours on Star Fox 64, I'm 99% sure there isn't any difference.

Ocarina of Time has 3 versions, and there were a couple others that were patched (I think SM64). The back label can help you with that.

in most cases though the changes are minor right? i don't think there's really any that have extra or less content in the PC versions.

I believe all of the variants exist on the N64 too.
I could be wrong. I remember my cuz mentioning it to me on at least one occasion.
The muslim stuff was in fire temple i think.
I believe the only way to know if you had a reprogrammed cart was to play the game. I'm sure someone tech savvy could look at the the guts of the cart though. I am not that someone.

Yep, the N64 had three versions. I think the GameCube ports may even have been slightly different as well.

I guess I'm talking strictly about the label. For example, I have NEVER seen a cart of Bomberman 64 or Bomberman Hero with a Player's Choice logo on the cartridge itself.

They don't have a logo on the label, only the box (possibly only on the shrink wrap). There are a few more like that as well.

So there would be no difference AT ALL. Exactly the same cart. Correct?

To clarify the answer,
AFAIK, all of the Player's Choice cartridges without the sticker or logo were straight up copies, which means that they're the same cartridge.
HOWEVER, DISCLAIMER:
Since no one paid attention to what I said previously, some PC releases had patched executable changes. With these, there were ways to determine the version based on version information on the back of the cartridge, similar to old NES releases. While the front label would show it to be the same, the back label would point out which version it belongs to.

do you have an example? like would it be the model number with a -1 at the end, or something along those lines?

Supposedly, for Ocarina of Time:
Codes and their respective versions are:
NUS-CZGE-USA = 1.0
NUS-CZLE-USA = 1.1
NUS-CZLE-USA-1 = 1.2
Note that this ISN'T the method I was mentioning, but at least it'll make the OoT variants easier. There's a version 1.0 and version 1.1 ROM of Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey, but I don't have time to track it down right now.

Someone provided me a helpful link on a Banjo Kazooie streaming thread today that should help guys:
http://zeldaspeedruns.com...ledge/version-differences
Quote
*The x's represent random numbers
xx = v1.0
xxA = v1.1
xxB = v1.2

Banjo Kazooie has 3 versions as well in the US.
