Okay...by now, I've told everyone that I'm absolutely pissed at Capcom for cancelling Mega Man Legends 3, but now that I've had some months (Yes, months) to sit down and think about it, I've come to this question:

"Was it for the best?"

Now, before any of you who are also Mega Man fans go crazy on me, hear me out...

Mega Man Legends 2 was released over 10 Years ago, I believe. It has a place in our hearts as a great game, with an almost...Camp Appeal, if you will. To get to my point, did we truly want to see a Sequel to it now, in this day and age? Yes, it probably would have had somewhat, if not completely, different gameplay. New Voice Actors, new Graphics, practically EVERYTHING about it would have changed. Do we really want a game that has established that much appeal to change so much? Yes, we do want closure to it all, but would we really appreciate it or like it in that form? Hence the question, was it all for the best that it was cancelled? I honestly don't know the answer myself, hence this long post. I want to hear YOUR opinions on it, even if you cite other games in the process.

That's it. Please let me hear your opinions.  Cool

I can't imagine things would've gone well after Inafune left anyway.

I don't know, you do make a good point. How often do these begged-for sequels to cult franchises end up actually delivering?

Don't hate me, but I've never played Legends. I've heard it's awesome, but I just never got around to anything Mega Man related after X5.

I'm in the same boat, but stuck back a little further at Mega Man X3 Sad I need to get on that

The first Legends was a fun game for me. Didn't really play the second one though. Still, it would be nice to carry on a series like this, but I think that it loses some of the luster when you have the creator of the main character leave the company.

Legends actually came out before X5.

Games are basically Zelda meets Megaman with a nice story and charming, memorable characters. Controls are a bit clunky, especially the first game, early Ps1 era and all, but if you can get past that they're really great. Legends 1 has an N64 port too, called Mega Man 64. It's a solid port, only problem it has is simply that the audio is sampled at a lower rate, so everyone sounds a tad muffled.

Misadventures of Tron Bonne is good too, by the way. It's a bit 'different', but yeah. Worth it if you're a fan of the other two.

EDIT: oops wrong quote

I'm aware Legends came out before X5, but I never got around to it since I jumped on PlayStation late, and I was playing the X series as a continuation from SNES. Grin

@Qwackula: (are you AppleQueso?)

@Shadow: Honestly, I played the first MML for the first time this past year and was actually pissed I had spent whatever it cost me to get it CIB. I certainly consider myself a MM fan, but I just couldn't get into Legends. I hated the controls and it just didn't wow me. I sold it and lost interest in investigating MML2 or Tron Bonne.

Toss me in the 'didn't get into it' boat. Though I have since gotten into Tron Bonne a bit, and I keep them all both as part of the collection or, more importantly, if someone comes over and wants to play them, the MML series just didn't hook me.

I played a bit (maybe 10 minutes) of Mega Man 64 and couldn't get into it.  Granted, 10 minutes isn't long at all, but...

I would have liked to have seen this game come out.  I hate to think that there are so many games that have been unreleased.

I agree. I got relatively far in the first game and I had trouble being excited about it. I actually got stuck at one point, probably because I blew all my funds on repairing the town instead of upgrading myself.

The controls are horrible, but you get used to them with some practice. The dungeons are pretty boring. It reminds me of Phantasy Star Online with its bland environments, sparse population, and basic combat.

NO it should have come out. MML series is amazing and my fave of the MM franchise. MMl2 left us on a cliffhanger. It's worse for me now than waiting for Shenmue III. Sega did not troll us into thinking the game is on it's way.
