The Laws of Sega
«

So in the last couple years that I've been going a bit crazy with collecting I've noticed a few things which always seem to happen when I find anything Sega related and in a decently sized lot, or even by itself. So I'm starting a list of Sega Laws that I think we can build on.
First Law of Sega: Any and all Genesis lots must include Sonic 2 and/or Mortal Kombat.
Second Law of Sega: Saturn sports games will have amazing cases, games you care about will have shitty cases.
Third Law of Sega: The ratio of complete:incomplete Dreamcast games increases exponentially as rarity and/or demand increases.

Fourth Law of Sega: Any console purchased in a lot will be missing at least one required component.

Well as as a huge fan of the Genesis/Mega Drive Here are the top 10 games you will always find in a lot.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Mortal Kombat
Sonic and Knuckles
Aladdin
Mortal Kombat II
The Lion King
Streets of Rage 2
X-Men
Plastic cases on the Saturn most likely will have some pressure applied to the cases in the many years after they have been released. Such as stacking, smashing, child abuse, random storage over the years Ect... They will crack over time. Ive had to pay a pretty penny myself for Sega Saturn games without cracked cases.
I can't help you on the third one as I don't collect for the Dreamcast, but I will eventually.

Technically, a controller is a required component for the console to function.

Umm... at least in my area on Craigslist they seem to always be missing the A/V cords, now that I think about it... I could be wrong.

Fifth Law: The SEGA version will always be less valuable than Nintendo (even if the game is better.)

How about the 80% chance that boxed games will be missing the manuals?

Well I really did enjoy Super Mario All-Stars. That was apparently given away for free. Hmm... Genesis six pak or Super Mario All-Stars... Their both delicious.

I disagree with the Third Law. Complete, even sealed games are out there. You typically pay a premium for them.
I propose a new Sega law. Dreamcast imports "Complete with obi" ship more often from Hong Kong than Tokyo.

They do exist, the third law does not say they don't. But every time I've run into a DC game that would command a premium complete it is almost always a loose disc. Its part of the reason my collection is still small, I find loose DC discs all the time and they're scratched to hell, unless they're stupidly common. If they're common then they're almost always complete and way overpriced "Because anything Dreamcast is rare," the dumb sellers say.

I never run into that 3rd law so I disagree. It's rare I see a loose DC game. So rare I can't remember the last time it happened.

Oh, you foolish mortals and your silly little laws...

My best friend picked up a Genesis lot while yard sale'ing on Saturday.
While it DID include
Mortal Kombat
, there was no
Sonic 2
to be found.
It
did
, however, come with two copies of
Sonic Spinball
.
Doin' good so far...

This lot had all the hookups: power cord, two 3-button controllers, and an RF switch.

This one's for you, Shoboni...
I personally have never encountered a loose Dreamcast title.
Then again, it might just be that I've never encountered the truly "rare" ones.
What's the next case on the docket?

Sixth Law: Most complete Dreamcast collections are on burned discs.

Thats actually true. And is also a good way to kill the GD ROM drive on your system quickly.
