I see this thing is GORGEOUS but also commands quite the premium over a regular 3DS.  I was curious if anyone knows how many were made.

Yeah, I searched Google and found not much more than other people asking the same question.   I have the opportunity to get one for $180 but I don't think I'll bother when I can get a brand new 3DS for less and a used 3DS for HALF that price.

You could ask around on this forum:

They track sales of games and hardware, but I'm not sure if they get into limited edition runs like that.

I really want one, based solely on the fact that it's a Legend of Zelda 3ds.  I didn't have the money when it came out but I'm still willing to drop up to about 200 maybe 250 on a CIB system.  I just have a weakness for Zelda things Smiley

I've been watching the ones on eBay.  Check out completed listings because I know I've seen a few CIB Zelda 3DS' go for $180-$190.  Most end around $220-ish though.

I got mine on Black Friday for $119.  I haven't seen them selling for less than $180 around me either.  My biggest complaint is that the box was glued shut on both sides forcing you to melt/cut the glue if you don't want to ruin the box.

I ended up just picking up an Aqua Blue 3DS with a broken LCD for $50.99 and a new replacement LCD for $23.98.  We'll see how this goes, if worst comes to worst then I can part it out and break even.  I've fixed plenty of DSi's/DSLites so I'm not too worried about it.

How about some before, during and after pics?  Better yet, do a video. Smiley

Here is my 3DS before and after

Here's the thing with this particular repair... it's REALLY tedious.  The 3DS is a sweet machine but that also means it's a ton of work. You have cables/ribbons for all 3 cameras, the mic, the circle pad, the wifi, the 3D intensity slider, both screen video ribbons, both screen backlight ribbons, the speakers, the SD card slot and a few others I'm probably forgetting.  There are 3 unique ribbons and the WiFi antenna going through the hinge.  There's a LOT going on inside a 3DS.  The screen I bought looks exactly like OEM, 3D works, everything. It's indistinguishable from factory screens. It may even BE an official screen.

Total cost is $50.99 for the 3DS, shipped + $23.98 for the screen with free shipping = $74.98

Pretty reasonable I think.  I've played through and 100%'ed Super Mario 3D Land and I'm about 2 hours into Tales of the Abyss.  I'm going to get a 3DS XL on August 19th and I'll probably flip this on my local Craigslist.

They often have a tendency to be horribly inaccurate. They don't actually track at all. It's basically a big guess.

Which they update to reflect NPD Group's numbers when they are released and dont match. But they are mostly quite close. Do you have better way to get estimated sales for games and hardware?
