To be fair, the PS2 had a year head start on it's competition last generation. Whereas the PS3 was released a year after the 360 and at the same time as the Wii.

If you "give it time", the console prices will drop even further. Therefore, why buy the hardware now @ the current prices if they don't have the games that you'd like to play?
True that. Very good point against getting one.

Also, Linux on the PS3 is one of the safer console "mods" you can do.  The layer the Linux part operates on is separated entirely from the console part; therefore protecting gamesaves and other media stored on your PS3 from any mistakes you might make.
Besides the inital losing everything that comes with formatting the hard drive, but you can easily backup your saves to a USB flash drive/external hard drive.

Also, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a great freaking game.  Tondog told me to try it out and I did.
Told you it's amazing. Cheesy

I've heard many good things about Unchartered: Drake's Fortune.

Still, I'd be patient if there aren't enough games out that appeal to you.

Also, don't forget that after the holidays there's going to be less likelihood of console shortages for the Wii and 360. Wii will probably still be tough to get, but not virtually impossible like it is now. And 360 will likely replenish its stocks at most stores.

360 is easy to find around here. Best Buy has about 15 or so of the Halo 3 model still.

Like everyone else said, really study the games and see which system your most hyped up about at the end. Especially when considering a system that isn't the cheapest. Also as mentioned, if you do decide the PS3 is the way to go, it may well be worth your time to await further price cuts and for it to have a larger game library unless after searching deeper your completely sold and don't want to wait a moment longer.
