I just caught this one the other day. It's been re-broadcast several times.

I thought they did a really good job talking about the evolution of games in arcades to homes and PCs and the impact it's come to have on us worldwide.

Check it out when you can. It's a good 2 hour special.

No. In fact, I don't think Tony Hawk was even mentioned.

I guess that the host was one of the standard PBS narrators. He looked a little bit like the "Inconceivable!" guy from Princess Bride.

Oh thats interesting. I have seen the one with Hawk and thought it was rushed and didn't focus enough on the birth of the modern gaming with NES. They kinda breezed over everything, done way too fast.

Did this one get more indepth or did it just skim over everything?

I didn't see the Tony Hawk one, but this one seemed to cover everything with just the right amount of depth.

From the arcade days, to Ralph Baer, to the marketing of pong, the starts of the 1st console boom, the crash in the industry in the mid 80's, it's recovery, where we are now and how much things have changed (especially with online), the societal impact of gaming, and what the future may hold.

It was very well thought out and presented, imo.
