I almost never buy a Collector Edition.  If I thought it was cool or worth the money I would, I just haven't seen too many that look that interesting.  Also, I'm pretty against bulky chachkes that take up valuable space.  That's why  I don't go in for things like LootCrate.  $17/month for a box full of mostly garbage or things that just add clutter.

I used to grab these all the time, even for games I wasn't particularly interested in.  But in the last few years, they've become so ubiquitous (and the contents of several so disappointing) that I'm far more selective now.  If I'm assuming it's something I'm really going to enjoy and the price isn't too crazy, I'll still bite.  I enjoyed the contents of the CE/LEs of each Bioshock, Batman Arkham, Gears of War, and Mass Effect.  Most of the Halo ones I thought worthwhile, and the Catherine one was quite inspired.  The Wizard edition of Ni No Kuni was great.  The D & D Mystara import was expensive but very nice.  The Destiny Ghost edition looks fantastic to me, especially with the first two DLC episodes included.

I never pick these up to resell, though.  Only to enjoy the contents.  I'm a sucker for decent artbooks, soundtracks, and the occasional statue.

Hell, before you know it a "Collector's" Edition will just be a copy of a game that includes a physical Manual and Disc instead of being exclusively digital.

Yup.  Kind of a separate discussion, but a good one.  Part of the reason I don't collect current get, or anything after the DC for that matter, is that the plastic case, disc, and paper insert directing you to the online manual just aren't that interesting to keep around.  There are exceptions like the beautiful Xenoblade Chrinicles packaging and manual, but most games you open up and are like...Oh.

And to compound this, you don't know if there was *supposed* to be a manual and if it's missing or not when you find a copy.

And then there are handhelds like the PSVita which don't even bother with physical manuals anymore, which kind of makes Vita Limited Editions somewhat useless in terms of value overall, unless you're a huge fan of that particular game franchise (like the Ys series). Cry
