I admit it I'm a fan of the series. I didn't take an interest early on but after I caught one of the first 2 movies on cable I decided to check it out. I bought the DVD's of the Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets and really enjoyed them. I've since read all 5 of the books. Good stuff, I am now a Potter fan.

Now, the third movie. I saw it at an IMAX theater which was quite cool. I'd only ever seen a few of the shorter documentary type IMAX movies so a feature length film on that moster screen was impressive.

The movie left a lot more out from the book than the first two did but that was a good thing. It moved along at a good clip. The look of the movie was more atmospheric and dreary. I didn't care much for the new Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) but what can you do? Richard Harris is dead. The only thing that bothered me was they tried to make Hagrid seem bigger but didn't quite pull it off, his scenes looked a little awkward.

has anyone else seen this movie?

I did and I was highly disapponted (saw it the day it came out). I've been a huge Potter fan since my mom wouldn't shut up about the first book so I read it (yup, one of em nutters that waited in line at mid for the 5th book).

WARNING: spoilers (kind of I guess)

I think the 3rd movie bit the big one. For someone who hasn't read the books it won't be a disappontment but dammit they chopped it to hell so bad! Unless I temporarily went deaf and blind, I don't believe they revealed who the makers of the map really are and I thought that was a neat touch in the book. The Firebolt was a biggie and I think they truly fucked up there. When I left the theater I felt as if I'd been ripped off and the book hadn't been done justice. I hope to hell they DON'T make a 4th movie cause I can't imagine how the hell they'll pull that off successfully unless they hand out paper bags and ear plugs to moviegoers so they don't have to witness the horrid injustice in it's entirety.

were the makers of the map revealed in the 3rd book? I thought it was Mad Eye Moody who let Harry in on that little secret. I didn't miss the Firebolt, there was more than enough Quidditch in the first 2 movies.

but yeah they did cut a lot out.

btw, Goblet of Fire is already being shot.

Yea, the makers of the map were revealed in the book. The nicknames of the makers. Another thing is the shape of Harry's patronus. I don't recall seeing that in the film, it was just whisps of white shit and omitting that I also feel is a mistake as it was a part of Harry's family history in a way...

They cut out way too much and jumbled the rest that to me it was disappointing. I understand that they had to make the movie fit a realistic time slot and all but it wouldn't have taken but another minute or two to add explainations for these things the way I see it. And hell, the patronus should have had it's proper form ala book. This is hollywood we're talkin about, there is NO excuse for fucking that up.

they did show the nicknames. when Fred and George gave Harry the map you could see the names Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail & I forget what Harrys dad's nickname was. they didn't say who they referred to.

Harrys patronus took the shape of a Stag. it was brief but it was in the movie.
