Tried to add the PAL demo for Final Fantasy VIII to database.

Whether I try to add it as a new title or as a demo variation, I get a message saying that it already exists in the database (hint: it isn't).

Also, could we get a separate category for Promos/Trade Demos (that is, pre-release full-game versions), as they are different animals.

There's no reason why it shouldn't work?

Add a variation of this:

Then put:
Variation Title: Demo
Release Type: Demo
and change Part Number/UPC accordingly

We have Trade Demos in the database already:

Trade Demos are not always full-game versions. In fact, I own a few, and NONE of them are pre-release full games. Unless you have conflicting information on why they should be separated from normal Demos, please let me know.

Are you referring to the Genre being limited to Demo, or the Release Type?

As for the Final Fantasy VIII demo, I presume that's the SCED-02062 disk. If it's stating that it's in the database already, have you verified that you're setting the Release Type appropriately? That wasn't covered in Sirgin's notes, and it's a required field.

Sry for lack of response (work commitments etc):

a) yes, I had been setting the "Release Type" as "Demo"
b) managed to submit as UK variation- bought from UK so AFAIK it's UK not EU (regionwide).
c) no, it's SLED 02258.  Doesn't have the FF8 logo, just plain text
d) I have seen an NTSC-US/C Trade Demo of Persona 4 advertised as a full game on eBay.  I have 2 PAL Promos for PS2 that definitely are full games.
