Shouldn't BETA be listed as its own media type then?
Its not like with CD/DVD where it can go one way or another in the same system BETA and VHS both required their own players.

If it comes to a point where we have a dozen or more Betamax games listed then it's definitely worth adding another media format to the already long list we have. At this point we'd probably add S-VHS, SuperBetamax, ED-Beta and U-matic to that same definition until they too can distinguish themselves with enough entries.
As it stands both are video cassettes and in truth, no more deserving of splitting than say PS2 blue disc CD-ROMs versus standard or Xbox/X360 discs which while technically DVDs, don't conform to the standard nor are they allowed to use that moniker. I realize it's a bit like splitting hairs but to put it into perspective, Sega Master System Cards and DS games use the same format in the database. If we split hairs too much, that media list will be a mile long. We still have entries coming in where DS games get submitted as cartridges and some Sega cards still are. I'd love to get super-technical with these but we have to balance archival quality information with making the scripts easy and non-intimidating to use for members and staff alike.
However until Betamax begins to populate the database feel free to add "Betamax" to the variation title. You never know if some of those video cassette games were offered on both and may need variations someday.
