dk64 box with expansion pak
«

so i just bought a copy of Donkey Kong 64 with box, no manual or expansion pak, and i was wondering if anyone knows how the expansion pak is actually supposed to be placed in the package? looking at it i can't figure it out, unless it's just tossed in loosely in the space beside the cart, but that isn't typical of nintendo 64. if someone has a copy with expansion pak could you take pictures of what it looks like sitting in the box?

Judging from various unboxing videos, the NA DK64 box didn't come with a cardboard tray. It does have have a little section set off with cardboard flaps that are attached to the actual box. Your copy might have had them torn off if it doesn't have them. On a side note, the PAL version came with a nice tray that had a space for the cart, expansion pak and the tool used for removing the paks.

i forgot about this topic, wow it went a long time without replies. mine has the cardboard supports attached like you mentioned, but it doesn't seem to have anything missing or torn off. it just has the area near the box opening slightly offset to the left which other n64 games don't do, and it actually makes it difficult to get the game out of the box because it's really tight now. i'm sure that space on the right is where the expansion pak goes but it just seems like such a cheap way to do it, i'm a little surprised. see the attached photo.

You should ask blck - he's one of the N64 experts around here. I purchased the game new and remember it being like that though.

That space does look like it's a bit too big. I think they didn't just toss it in there with a baggy because it would have moved around a lot.

I remember it with a baggy, folded up on itself...
They didn't sell the Pak in cardboard until later, as I purposefully bought DK64 (which I enjoyed anyways) to use the Pak with Perfect Dark.

Tech - I checked my dad's copy from when he bought it new, and it looks exactly like yours does. He never throws any of the boxes or inserts away, so I'm pretty sure the Expansion Pak slid into that little notch above the game cart. I also assume that it had a little baggie with it to hold the Pak and the removal tool.

thanks for the help! i was worried there was something wrong with the box i had because every other n64 accessory pack-in like this has always had a nice way to store it, but this one just seems so cheap. oh well, at least i don't need to buy another box or anything
