Today I'm reviewing a horizontal scrolling shooter for the Genesis that has a bit of an easier pace than most games in the genre but also a great sense of style. It's Trouble Shooter!
Already commented on the YT page, but I'm happy to see coverage of this game. Good stuff, Pam. It's a shame this game didn't get more recognition, and that we got the lame artwork here in the West. I also wasn't aware that Vic Tokai published Trouble Shooter in the West before publishing Battle Mania in Japan, so that's a fun detail. Despite the game coming out prior to the anime boom in the late 90's, had we got the Japanese cover art here, it may have at least caused a few more people to pick up the box and give it a serious look. I only knew about this game due to having played it a long time ago via emulation, and then stumbled across a cart-only copy in a shop a while later, and snapped it up. It's pretty charming for a shmup, and definitely deserves more love. The sequel is even stronger, but unfortunately, we never saw that here. There was apparently a 3rd game planned, which was to come out on the Dreamcast, but that never materialized. Would have been awesome to see, though!
