Title: Weekly Poll 12/31/06
Post by: shaggy on December 31, 2006, 02:01:12 PM
Which of the 3 systems has the best set of games coming out in 2007?

There should be an option that says Nintendo, provided they stick to their launch schedule. And what about the Money Maker Nintendo DS?

I was thinking strictly between the consoles.  I mean does the DS even have any competition?  I know Leon would love this one.

I voted for Wii, with the understood statement that my vote is contingent on Nintendo releasing their schedule as currently planned, which they probably won't do.

Ouch for the PS3

I voted 360.  Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Assassin's Creed, Lost Planet, GTA 4, Command and Conquer 3, Crackdown, Fable 2 (possibly in '07), and more convince me.

Wii has potential as well, but nothing I'm particularly interested in.

The Wii is the only one to come close, the rest....well, the 360 is getting some great RPGs in Japan....

I have to say the Wii.  Mario and Metroid both are coming out next year.  Mario Party 8, Wii Play, Wario Ware, and Super Smash Brothers are all supposed to come out next year.  The 360 also has some nice games coming out, too, but you can't beat that Nintendo lineup.  PS3?  More like PS What.

It's sad, nut I say the PC has the best games of 07.

I voted for Xbox 360...the two Halo games, etc....

The Wii has a nice lineup, but they're still mostly kids games.  When I want to play kids games I rather play games from when I was a kid for nostalgic reasons rather than kiddie games that I've never played before on next gen systems.  I played a Mario Party game (#6) for the first time a few days ago, and while the multiplayer mini-games were somewhat fun (which is mostly due to it being a competitive multiplayer game anyway), the entire game was just totally aimed at 5 year olds...kiddie talk, characters, theme, etc...not something that sparks my interest anymore ;)

Too close to call between the Wii and the 360. I think the PS3 will do much better near yaers end, and next year it should be in this conversation.

I voted 360, whilst the Wii has some interesting titles set to be released the majority of them are sequels and re-hashes of some sorts of old Nintendo franchises. This doesn't breed too much confidence from myself and I really do hope I am wrong. To be honest I couldn't care less if I ever see Mario or Wario ever again, but it looks like they'll probably both out live me, with thier continuous sequels. On the other side of that argument though Im sure there will be some smaller independant developers who release some kick arse games for the Wii this year but we won't know anything about them until they're on the shop shelves.

The 360's line up though has big interesting games covering a broad spectrum of genres. As Pieter said they have the Halo games, they are having Lost Planet and are also set to get the head start "exclusive" release of GTA 4, which will pull the punters away from the PS3 for the time being.

PS3 line up is shit, nuff said...

Halo Wars - RTS - Command and Conquer style.

A couple of months back, it was when they were still messing about with Peter Jackson and deciding that a Halo movie would actually be crap.

Usually I could care less about anything Halo, but I am a big fan of Ensemble Studios games so even I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Also, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will be on the 360 this year.

I'm the lone soul who voted PS3...

Why?

Devil May Cry 4
Motorstorm
Lair
Heavenly Sword
MGS 4
Skate
Ratchet and Clank 5
Jak and Daxter 4
Hot Shots Golf 5
LA Noire

I'm interested in all those.

Weakest lineup next year: Xbox 360. There is NOTHING on it I am interested in. The only 360 games I'm interested in are all cross platform. Xbox 360 really needs a more diverse game lineup. The main thing it really has are shooters, and I've grown tired of that genre. Yes, I didn't even like Halo or Halo 2.

Wii has a pretty damn strong lineup also.

You're not looking closely enough Tondog.

Hmmm...let's see...Bioshock (Action RPG), Mass Effect (RPG), Lost Planet (TPS), Command & Conquer 3 and Halo Wars (RTS), Crackdown (Action/GTA style), GTA4 (Action/Mayhem), Fable 2 (RPG), the next Spinter Cell (stealth...exclusive to 360), Assassin's Creed (Action/Stealth), Forza 2 (racing)...

Seems pretty diverse to me!

Hmmm...let's see...Bioshock (Action RPG)
Looks like an FPS to me. However it could be like Deus Ex, which would be a good thing.
Quote
Mass Effect (RPG)
Don't like RPGs like that.
Quote
Lost Planet (TPS),
Got me there. It looks like it might be alright.
Quote
Command & Conquer 3 and Halo Wars (RTS)
Not Interested. Especially not interested in another Halo game.
Quote
Crackdown (Action/GTA style), GTA4 (Action/Mayhem),
I'm tired of GTA.
Quote
Fable 2 (RPG),
Not an RPG fan.
Quote
the next Spinter Cell (stealth...exclusive to 360)
More boring FPS. I really don't like Splinter Cell.
Quote
Assassin's Creed (Action/Stealth)
On PS3.
Quote
Forza 2 (racing)...
Looks mighty impressive, however I'm not sure it will dethrone Gran Turismo.

Where are the platformers? Where are the rhythm games? Where is the quirky original stuff like Katamari Damacy? Where are the adventure games like Ico, Okami, or Shadow of the Colossus? I admit, Viva Pinata is a step in the right direction, but it's not enough to save the 360 from bland repetition.

Title: Re: Weekly Poll 12/31/06

Just because you don't "like" the lineup doesn't mean it's not a diverse one.

And while I admit that games like Okami, SotC, and Ico are quality adventure games, it's only a matter of time before more original titles  come to the 360. And with Capcom on board with Microsoft, who knows? Dead Rising was a very original game in '06.

Now If I were in turn to criticize YOUR list one by one...

Devil May Cry 4 - Not interested.
Motorstorm - Might be good...wait and see.
Lair - Not interested.
Heavenly Sword - Could be good if it matches the gameplay in God of War.
MGS 4 - Not interested.
Skate - ???
Ratchet and Clank 5 - Not interested.
Jak and Daxter 4 - Not interested.
Hot Shots Golf 5 - Not interested.
LA Noire - Will be on 360 also.

Further, to echo your sentiment, where's the originality on the PS3? Looks like your list has 5 sequels on it!

My point is that it's a matter of preference. But diversity cannot be criticized just because you "don't like it".

Sorry If I seem abrasive, but I had to speak up here. Have you actually played Splinter Cell before? It's a third person stealth platformer/adventure and you rarely have to shoot anyone throughout the entire game, in fact doing so defeats the whole purpose of it. Even when you shoot someone it's usually in 3rd person. I guess people just assume it's a FPS because it's a Tom Clancy game.

If you don't like a game that's fine with me, to each their own. If you going to pass judgment on a series at least play it first so you know what type of game your actually talking about. That way rabid frothing Splinter Cell fanboys like myself don't drop down from the ceiling and attack you.  :ninja:

Lost Planet actually didn't get to great of reviews.  Only average.

XBox Live is getting a Katamari Damacy game.

Also how can you say original games when have of your list are sequels?

All three system will have good games this year. It just depends what kind of games you like. I don't like platformers or rhythm games. I do like RTS. FPS and RPG's.

So far. Looks like the Lamepro review is bringing it down. I don't know what they're smoking, because my experience with the demos has been that this is a very innovative and well-designed game. I have no idea what they're basing their rating on, but these are the same people that gave Jaws a 4 out of 5...

And I find it hard to believe that the demos for LP can be so good, yet the overall game be disappointing...especially since it's a Capcom game.

PS3.

MGS 4 will be the most impressive game, possibly to date. Sure it'll have a crappy stupid storyline, and old snake, but the game play and graphics will be astounding, I promise.

As far as the rest of any games anywhere, Assassins Creed and GTA 4 are the only ones that interest me.

I REALLY hope they get titles like that. That's one thing that Xbox is sorely missing.

They are games that I really like and enjoy playing. Ratchet and Clank is probably my favorite game series of all-time. I know my list does have quite a few sequels, but the thing is that last generation (and even the one before that) Playstation usually got the more quirky titles.

Tan, sorry about that. I forgot that Splinter Cell is 3rd person. My mistake.

Tynstar, Katamari Damacy is coming to Xbox Live? That along with Viva Pinata are the best things to happen to Xbox. If there are more things like that then I'll surely consider getting it.

I think I read in EGM that Wii, PS3 and the 360 are all getting a version.

Katamari on Wii would make perfect sense, using the wii-remote, to roll.

In fact I'd say the machine would be ideal for it.

Halo wars is pushed til spring or summer of 2k8.
It was originally supposed to be released before Halo 3 but i heard it got changed.
And Halo 3 is pushed till Xmas of this year.

So GoW2 will probably be out Xmas next year.

Oh it was hard for me to decide between Wii or 360....
I have to go with 360 though.
Since the Wii released titles could turn out very very good or very very bad depending on how the controller is used.

That is not what the article states. It says that the title would not be coming to the XBL arcade.
They did not rule out that it could end up being a released game for the 360 however.
