I still haven't finished my 32x collection, so that is always my overriding goal, and the last game I need is Spiderman:  Web of Fire.  I don't know if I'll ever actually pony up the $200+ to buy it, but maybe one day I'll do it.

Other than that, my goals are relatively modest:

300+ PS2 games
Finished 11/17
300+ NES games (49 to go)
200+ PS1 games Finished 11/27
100+ DC games (19 to go)
100+ SNES games Finished 1/24
100+ Xbox games Finished 8/31
75+ Gamecube games Finished 11/17
and pass 2500 total games (67 to go)

Other than that, I just want to get back out and actually hunt again.  I stopped going out and searching for games on a regular basis after I found out my wife was pregnant  about a year and a half ago because I didn't know exactly how much it would affect me financially.  Now that I'm back into a financial comfort zone, I feel good getting back in the game.

I'm close to completing my personal Xbox collection, and then after that i'll probably move on to ps1 and ps2

I'm torn on whether to set reasonable but still great goals or just shoot for the moon. I'm leaning towards the former, so here goes:

- 1,500 total games (1,336 as of today) Finished on 10/12/2013
- 600 total NES games (542 as of today) Finished on 10/12/2013
- 100 N64 games (53 as of today) Finished on 1/24/2013

I feel like I could come up with more but I'll stick with this for now.

Goals for 2013:

-Get remaining Nintendo 64 hardware
--Grape console
--Gold controller
--Millennium 2000 controller
-Get a CIB copy of Star Fox 64
-Get a copy of Super Metroid (SNES, cart only OK)
-Keep under 600 games
-Sell off remaining duplicates and unwanted items

I did OK on my goals from last year, so I hope I can knock off a few more this year.

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2013

I think my goals will be far more humble this year as my main financial priorities will keep me from squandering too much in gaming related purchases this year. I plan to keep my 3DS collection growing steadily but that may be it for this year. I'm at 93 games now, so 100 is a very reasonable goal - it'll probably end up being closer to 125.

I'm going to keep it simple this year:

100 more Famicom Games
100 more NES Games
50 more SNES Games
25 more N64 Games

Adventure Island IV for the Famicom
Gimmick! for the Famicom
Battle Kid 1 & 2 for the NES
Duck Tales 2 NES
Rescue Rangers 2 NES

OK I want to get games to go along with all my orphaned boxes/manuals, cardboard inserts for all my n64 boxes, and if possible get to 200 N64 games. Let's hope I can get these finished.

i want to aim to have at least 5 games for each system that i actually would enjoy. i have a lot of small collections with less than that many total games, and a few with more total but not many i would likely play. i may also do another audit of my collection, my last one was at the 600 games mark and brought me down to nearly 500. i've been better about not buying everything, but i still have some that i wouldn't miss.

Dreamcast - 5/5
Saturn - 2/5
Wii U - 2/5
Xbox - 3/5 (i have 5 total but 2 of them i don't care for much)
Turbo Grafx-16 - 1/5
Vita - 1/5
Gameboy Advance - 1/5 (2 total, don't care about one)

Aiming to reach 50 "worthwhile" SFC games, and Japanese Final Fantasy set for either PS1 or PS2 (excluding XI).  A total of around 25 games.

Update: Got PS1 & PS2 Final Fantasy main sets [FF7, FF7 Int, FF8, FF9; FF10, FF10 Int, FF10-2, FF10-2 Int, FF12, FF12 Int]
Update: Got over 50 SFC games, although have compromised on "worthwhile" a bit.

As stated in the introduce yourself thread, my goal this year is to get a correct inventory of my collection, get rid of extras and doubles and get my gaming and storage space organized nicely. I plan on documenting my progress in a blog here to keep me motivated along the way.

Would also be nice to complete my dreamcast and intellivision collections, as they are the closest to complete.

Also get both my pinball machines tuned up and working.

Happy new year all!!

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2013
Post by: MercuryCrusader on January 21, 2013, 04:32:38 AM
I've reached a point in my collecting where most of my consoles are, for the most part, complete as far as I'm concerned. Most of them are down to a few scant items left on the wishlist that aren't necessarily expensive, yet haven't shown up in local stores, and I'm not in the mood to buy those items off of eBay. Since my spending has decreased due to a combination of that as well as local stores just not having much in stock anymore, I've decided to start buying games online for the platform that I haven't purchased games for in a long time: the Sega Saturn.

My goal is simply to grab as many titles throughout the year as possible from my wishlist. Unfortunately, I can't think of a rigid wishlist. Another unfortunate thing is that I am focusing on the more expensive US-published games, complete in box. As my current Saturn collection contains mostly complete copies and a good mix of common (such as NiGHTS, VF2, and Daytona USA) and rare (such as Dragon Force and Panzer Dragoon Saga), I shouldn't be breaking the bank too hard on this. Hopefully.

SEGA SATURN GAMES PURCHASED IN 2013
- Shinobi Legions
- Fighters Megamix
- Sonic 3D Blast
- Last Bronx

SEGA SATURN GAMES WISHLIST (subject to change without notice)
- Astal
- Burning Rangers
- Clockwork Knight
- Die Hard Arcade
- Enemy Zero
- Golden Axe: The Duel
- Guardian Heroes
- GunGriffon
- Hang-On GP
- House of the Dead
- Legend of Oasis
- Saturn Bomberman
- Sega Ages
- Shining Force III
- Shining the Holy Ark
- Shining Wisdom
- Sky Target
- Virtua Fighter Remix

- Mystaria: The Realms of Lore/Blazing Heroes (?)

My main goal is to collect all US Castlevania games complete.  I've got 15 so far, many more to go.

I'm also working on sealed Lynx games and Majesco Genesis rereleases.  I know, I'm weird :)

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2013

...and, your goal's not much different than mine. I've put a lot of effort into documenting the Majesco rereleases and there's a huge thread on SegaAge about them. I've also got my own set of sealed Lynx games I need to finish off, since there's an Atari liquidation place a couple hours from my house that wholesales them.

1.  Pick up at least 12 of the 24 NES games left to complete my licensed set.
2.  Pick up CIB copies of the two Vectrex 3-D games
3.  Pick up at least 20 loose unowned Atari 2600 titles
4.  Pick up remaining Aracadia Supercharger releases CIB
5.  Pick up 10 loose Colecovision titles

Grails:
1. Pick up Vectrex 3-D Imager w/ 3-D Minestorm
2. Pick up Centaur and Medusa pinball machines  ;D

Gonna cross post the collecting related stuff from a similar post I made elsewhere:

Libraries:
-build up the collections of my most currently neglected systems. I have only a handful of games for Game Boy (currently only 5 GB, 2 GBC, and 4 GBA), Turbo Grafx (6), and Sega Master System (7) right now and want to build those up.
-To a lesser extent, I'd like to build up my Atari 2600 (13), Saturn (11) and Dreamcast (10) collections as well.
-Most of the popular Wii titles should start really dropping in price soon, so I'd like to jump on that and built up a better Wii library while the prices are good.
-Nab the top 20 or so most expensive games on the N64. Get that out of the way and on my way to a complete US set!

Hardware
-Get a new Sega CD and built a modest library for that. I briefly had one, but got rid of it for some reason.
-Hori Gamecube GBPlayer controller.
-Get a pong console. Maybe a Telstar or something.
-Get more second generation consoles and built up some modest libraries for them. Colecovision, Intelllivision, Odyssey2, Vectrex, whatever.
-Virtual Boy, perhaps?
-Master System Light Phaser. How else am I going to play Safari Hunt and Rescue Mission?
-More N64 controllers. I only have one!

Misc
-Continue doing what I've been doing with building up the Nintendo side of my library.
-Finish getting the first two or three years or so of Nintendo Power.
-Try and finish re-building my childhood Game Boy, N64, SNES, and NES libraries. I'm pretty close to this one.

EDIT: added a new goal to the list

Secret of Mana 2 Repro
Dragon Quest 3 SNES Repro ( If someone makes it)
Terranigma Repro
Wild Guns (maybe)
Complete Super Ghoul N Ghosts
Dokapon Kingdom
More Genesis
More 3DS
-And-
Sell or get rid of some of the stuff I've been holding on to forever.

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2013
Post by: jansolee66 on January 24, 2013, 11:00:07 PM
1. Systems:

I'd like to pick up at least one of these older systems:
-Magnavox Odyssey (original)
-Emerson Arcadia
-Atari 5200
-Atari 7800

I'd like to have at least 2 of these:
-Sega 32X
-Sega Dreamcast
-Xbox
-Atari Jaguar (longest shot right now)

If the next XBOX or Playstation come out, I want to get in on the ground floor (I haven't owned a system during it's heyday since I got a Game Boy in 1989)

2. Games:

I'd like to finish off my list of targeted Master System games:
-Fantasy Zone 2
-Power Strike 2 (optional)
-Donald Duck: The Lucky Dime Caper (optional)[/s]

I'd like to add 15 or so titles to my NES collection
. I've begun doing some targeted shopping which has helped me keep the quality of my pickups. A more specific goal I have is to complete my NES Mega Man collection (I'm missing 4 and 6).

I think that most of my other collections could use a little bit of expanding, especially the 16 bit stuff.

I'm satisfied with most of my second gen collections except for my Odyssey 2. I would absolutely love to score the big 3 board/video games.

3. Other:

I would like to start selling systems/games that are not essential parts to my collection

I would really like to try to have all of the proper wiring/connectors to run my systems. Right now, I can usually find a way to play but there's too much mixing and matching.

I would absolutely love to pick up a high def TV. I still have an old school TV which is cool for retro stuff, but if I plan to delve in new systems, an HDTV is a must.

Well, let's see. Last year I bought a house and I managed to complete just about one goal as a result. This year I'm more likely to make some goals.

1/10/2014 - Yeah, these goals went no-where. Medical bills suck.

  • Increase my Playstation collection to over 100 games with a focus on rpgs and adventure games (Currently 82)
- 85 - FAILED
  • Increase my NES collection to at least 85 games (Currently 72)
- FAILED
  • Increase my Dreamcast collection to 35 games (Currently 27)
- FAILED

Planned goals for the year are mostly to expand my cartridge collection.

Hoping to get:

1. 100+ Atari 2600 -(So far picked up 3 console variations and 60 or so games)
2. 50-100+ NES  -(Sitting around 29 right now found a good source at a local flee market though so hitting 50 should be easy once i get some cash :P)
3. 20+ SNES
4. 50+ Genesis (Currently at 18)

More Specific Goals:

Would like to complete my .hack collection on the PS2. Might also consider picking up the G.U. series (Only have Part 1: Infection so far :P)

Also would like to complete my Final Fantasy collection for the PS. All i have left to acquire is Final Fantasy Anthology.

*going for all the pikachu systems

not sure what DE & Beam will entail as far as rarities still need to do some research

I'm hoping to reach 500 total. No particular rhyme or reason to how I do it, just want that to be my goal. I'm at 336 right now with two en route from eBay. Definitely feasible.

Up to 371 of that total and it's only February...Would like to make ALL of my loose carts become CIB too.

Up to 465. Looks like I won't have a problem.

I've been slowly collecting for a long time..Never really had any focus.  I would just pick up stuff when i could find it cheap. I Plan to narrow my goals down a little.  (focus on NES, SNES, or n64. Haven't decided yet)

I chose to do the same thing, but my focus is on a complete N64 set.  I am 6 games away from halfway there!

There's a pretty good chance I'll be moving somewhere with less space, and as I'm going on to year 3 of this collecting adventure the novelty of hoarding every piece of retro 'ware is beginning to wear off a little bit.  So, I'll probably be parting ways with quite a few things that I don't care I have.  As I should, because I don't need 6 Game Boy Pockets just because they're different colors.

BUT, I'm not done collecting.  Not even close.  I'm just readjusting my mission.  I really enjoy doing NES subsets, which apparently is what all the cool kids are doing these days and in a way the cheapest way to feed the addiction.  Because getting married, saving money to finance a house (psh yeah right), having kids in the next few years...in other words, being an adult and managing priorities is really beginning to take hold and squeezing all my F.U. money.

Who am I kidding, I'm gonna keep buying everything I see.

That's the spirit!

From a person who has a wife and kids, you can still have some fun money. Just learn to flip some stuff and have the hobby earn you some money to goof around with.

You can also start aiming for title quality instead of quantity. Find fewer, better games.

500 nes games?

Title: Re: Collecting Goals for 2013
Post by: JerryGreenwood on July 26, 2013, 02:24:31 PM
I'm going to set my goals a little lower and looser.

1 - Sega CD console
1 - TG-16 console

3 - Sega CD games (almost anything)
3 - TG-16 games (almost anything)
3 - NES games (specific from my wanted list)
3 - SNES games (specific from my wanted list)
3 - SMS games CIB (specific from my wanted list)
3 - Genesis games CIB (specific from my wanted list)

My goals might seem meager, but it's realistic, and given my current situation I'd be proud and happy if I could pull it off.

Wow, I did most of this MUCH faster than I thought. I finally found a place that sells older stuff.

I'm getting a Sega CD from eBay

From a shop I got;
Sega CD - Flashback with case (no manual)
NES - R.C. Pro-Am, Batman, and Deadly Towers
SNES - Populous
SMS - Alien Syndrome CIB, Golvellius with case (no manual), Time Soldiers with case (no manual)
GEN - Super Thunder Blade CIB, After Burner II with case (no manual), Zoom! CIB

It's the first time in a decade I've seen or bought anything outside of eBay and it was well worth it.

Just noticed that I'm only 5 away from 500 actual games in my collection, so my immediate goal is to pass that this weekend when I hit yard sales.  After this past week and a "surprise" from Singlebanana on Monday, I now have 502 total games, so that goal's been easily passed.  Thanks to that singular yellow fruit for that.  ;) Other goals I'd like to achieve by the end of the year:
--Hit 200 NES titles: Only 2 to go now, and hoping that the rest of that will come with completing the Tengen NES subset (Only 3 to go on that one: After Burner, Toobin', and Fantasy Zone)  Did this a little while back, with my 212th and most recently purchased title being Hatris.
--Find at least 1 Final Fantasy SNES game for less than $50 that is NOT Mystic Quest.
--Find both a Sega Genesis console and a SNES console, since I only have a RetroN 3 and not the actual consoles at the moment.
--Finally, make both of my copies of Gradius III and Contra III complete: Gradius III just needs a manual, and Contra III
needs both a manual and the cardboard insert for the box.

No worries, a big dent in this number is coming your way sir. :)

One more game to finish off my Konami Silver Box Collection - King's Quest V

Still Working on my Castlevania Collection, picked up Lords of Shadow on ebay over the weekend. So I can mark another one off the list.

Just picked up King's Quest V on ebay, I have accomplished my goal. I now have all Silver Box Konami Games which are either CB or CIB. I am pretty sure only two of them are CB, so all I need to grab are the manuals

I recently discovered that I have a lot of the more expensive Dreamcast games due to one lot I got like 10 years ago on ebay for 60$ (2x Mars Matrix, Bangai-O, D2, Shenmue, Gunbird 2, Tech Romancer, Skies of Arcadia, Project Justice) so I figure I'll go for a complete Dreamcast NA CIB collection which might not be too difficult at this point.

I still ~170 games away though so I reckon I won't be done by end 2013 but I can probably get pretty close by getting a couple of lots on ebay.

Thanks, financially irresponsible past self!

hmm. that was too easy. Still a month of 2013 left and I hit my goal.. Well my new goal is to own a Sega Saturn with at least one (hopefully 2) Working Designs titles. I have been eying up copies of Albert Odysee, Shining Wisdom and Magic Knight Rayearth at Crabby's store.

I dont think I have enough time to complete my Capcom and Konami NES subsets.
